Wife Gave Me The Green Light
Last night my wife gave me the green light to get a new motor for my car. 6,000 is my cap. I have been doing rsearch but am somewhat confused as to what is good ou there. I know I want a turn key crate motor no less than 450 hp. Is 6,000 enough to make this dream possible? Any suggestions would be very helpful. I want F/I with harness and everything I need to turn the key and go

Or you could go with a 10:1 355 with trickflows heads and a 230 degree cam, which is a good 12 second combo all day.
Figure this:
Machine your block: $500
pistons: $250
Molly rings: $130
Gaskets: $200
Bearings: $200
Good Crank: $500
Good rods: $225
Arp bolts: $200
Heads: $1200
Cam: $250
Miniram: $1400
Injectors: $250
Timing chain: $80
Total: $5385
Budget another couple hundred for a chip if you can't tune. If you want 4 bolt splayed caps figure like $100 for the caps and a little more money for machining. Budget another $500 or so for converter OR clutch if it's a stick. Pkg deals might make prices less, known 'combo's (like from trickflow), etc.

Do you have an emissions requirement, does it need to be smogged?

$2,899 base price for 383 shortblock
-- AFR elmininator heads, 195cc, about $1450
-- Miniram or Superram intake, about $1,000 - $1400, less if used -- always try to get used -- check ebay constantly, check the thirdgen.com
-- Camshaft, $300
-- Another $500-750 for incidentals (injectors were mentioned, that's one)
-- Labor is going to be another $1,000-$1500 for engine R&R
You're going to need to ask mommy for another $1,000+, BUT it will be worth it after all the screaming matches between you two, I wish you good luck!

I don't need to worry about emissions. I have the car registered as a collector and emissions isn't required. Will an LT1 setup work well enough for this type of application? Are there heads that will match an LT1 setup?
