Re: Poll - Whats the best spark plug to use? (C4Fetish)
Ok, here it is... I do not believe in "gimmick" plugs. That is just what they are!! A spark plug has very little effect on how the engine runs in general, or burns fuel. Yes, they will get old and decrease in performance, however brand new "stock" plugs will work equally as well as brand new "gimmick" plugs for a fraction of the cost!(If anyone can show me dyno numbers from a simple spark plug change, I'd like to see them!) A "good" spark plug is merely one that will survive the conditions within your engine and maintain cleanliness with a proper heat range.

Ditto '95 Auqa,
I've been building/hotrodding SB chevy engines for 35 years, and I can't remember even one tenth off an e.t. or an extra horsepower on the dyno from changing a FRESH plug to another brand, or one that has platnum in the electrode....assuming gaps and heat ranges are equal. I say FRESH because oftentimes folks will have an undiagnosed engine problem and see fouling, then switch to another plug and sing praises immediately....and the same condition exhibits later with the new plugs.
A switch in plug configuration is warranted by ignition system upgrades, certainly.....but not necessarily a brand name. I've even indexed plugs (lengthy proceedure to insure the plug's grounding strap is oriented exactly the same in each cylinder) in search of h.p., but it ain't happening.

I agree--go gimmick free!!
You can learn a LOT about how an engine is running by looking at the plugs from time to time. If you just have the basic one-ground electrode plug installed, you will be more apt to pull them out and check their condition. These 40,000+ mile plugs? Maybe-If I knew my car was going to be sold at 35,000! I stick with the old Delco plugs.
And just in case Accel 'Header Plugs' come to mind when you get ready to buy some, they are made my Denso, and you can get the exact same Denso plug (well, 1/4" longer on the insulator) for a third the price. -Matt-

I think the best plug is a copper core plug. AC Delco, Bosch Super or NGK. The platinum plugs, especially the Bosch, run the tips very hot and can promote pinging.

I have had good luck with Autolite in my race motors and use them in my every day drivers. Heat range is important I stay with the coldest plug that works with my motor.

Most spark plugs are the same to me, I use Bosch Platinum 4 because I have tried many others and these seem to last much longer.

I put AC Delco platinums in about a month ago and the car ran o.k. for about 250 miles then started missing and felt like running on 6 cylinders.I thought well, the wires are old so replaced them.Had new cap and rotor, Accel Coil already. No luck... finally went back to AC Delco R43TS's and the motor came back to life. Now that was a waste of over $30. My advice is stay with the plugs reccomended for the particular engine you have .Stock Plugs for Stock Engine!!!

Good to see only 1 of 56 doesn't know about the factory C4 AC platinum electrodes falling off within 10K miles which can tear up a cylinder wall. No biggie....NOT. My choice is ANY other plug.

heard horror stories about the ac platinums as well, if you have to use a platinum plug use bosch, they actually work & work for quite awhile. been running the $2 bosch platinums in all the cars i own for years & love em. someone else mentioned this too but just keep em fresh, i'd rather change a $2 plug yearly than use $4 plugs for two years..

I use the NGK TR55's
They have a little V cut into the center electrode, I'm sure it's just a gimmick. The plus side is that they are fairly cheap, $16 max for the set.
What impresses me the most about the plugs is that they seem to be very well made. The bosch +4's that I had just looked cheap, so do many other platinum plugs. It's hard to explain really, just look at one to see what I mean.
Regardless I have to agree with everybody else. Any brand new plug will perform just as well. It's just a matter of how well it stands up to the punishment.
