I need tranny help please!!( long sorry)0
Long story short: blew my 88 auto tranny this weekend. So at this point i have a few options on the table and i dont know what to do :( . Option 1 is $1400-1600 complete rebuild at buddys shop, who is very good, best in town and ive had him do work on 3 other cars(all perfect work) . Option 2 is 1600-1800 maybe a bit more(not sure what that means) , complete rebuild from a highly recomended vette shop 1 hr away. Option 3 $650 plus $300 or so labor for a used 93 tranny from a 40th anny w/41000 miles Option4 guy with very similar lingenfelter set up says he was in carlisle this summer and had his dynoed , detected some probs w/tranny and was told to get a turbo400 w/reverse throttle body and not bother with the 700, this guy swore up and down this was the way to go sooooo are there other options that are better or does one of these work?... Im not sure what to do... Thanks for any help :cry :cry :U

How much muscle do you have behind the car ?
In my area, a hiperf rebuild of your Tranny cost about $1500 + Torque convertor + Install(If you need it). A proper built 700R4 can take a nice amount of power. The lockup and overdrive are nice pluses.
If you have a stock car, get a stock rebuild for about $1200 with a 1 year warrenty. Another idea is to get a GM rebuilt Tranny with a 3 year warrenty.

Not sure exactly, but seems to be quite a bit of hp and torque, i picked the car up at a auction a few years back and it seems to have a full lingenfelter package from back in the 88 time frame. Basically its a monster!!!
thanks, dave

my guess is around 350rwhp ... stock l98 is 250hp at the fly ... lingenfelter usually adds like 100-150hp.

I would seriously consider getting a well built turbo400 tranny with a gear-vendor overdrive. Go to http://www.villa-automotive.com/Over...verdrive.html. They don't show the conversion for Vettes on this page but I know they have a kit for it. Just call them up and ask them. Maybe somebody else here knows another source for such a unit also. I am told that the turbo400 or turbo350 is a much stronger unit than the 700r4. And by putting the overdrive unit on you can cruise all day at mega speeds, hahahaha. I don't think it is a cheap unit, but why would you want to scrimp on your Vette? When my tranny blows away I'm planning on doing this type of conversion.

all a 700R4 is a turbo 400/350 with an overdrive there are a lot of nice rebuild kits out there for them i would stick with the 700R4 and build it to how you want it. by the way i do rebuilding i dont know if your nearby or not.

Thanks for the input guys, I brought it into my buddies local shop today, they will start on it tommorow. They are gonna do a full rebuild on it, and beef it up and just to add insult to injury the starter is crappin out sooooooo might as well fix that to. Ok that makes everything but the motor has been replaced. :U cant wait

Re: I need tranny help please!!( long sorry)0 (thedarkone101)
I had mine rebuilt at Level Ten. Your buddy can get all the performance parts from them and really beaf it up. Check out Levelten.com. The owner will be glad to discuss with you upgrades. My new tranny and convertor allows me to do burnouts at 20 mph.
