Steam coming out defroster on windshield
I just went out to start my 89 first time since Oct. Charged battery and went about 2 miles when steam started coming out defroster on to windshield. No moister on floor,no leaks in hoses, just curling out defroster

Other than a blown engine or tranny the news could not be much worse.

Thats kind of what I thought, It put so much moisture inside the windshield fogged up and side windows. When I got the car back to the garage and turned it off,it was stll curling out defroster, but nothing on floor and you can tell by the smell its not electric

Before you get all weak in the knees about having to do the dreaded heater core replacement, you need to do some investigation. Is the "steam" oily and does it smell sweet? Does it just smear when you wipe off the inside of the windshield? If the answers are "YES", then you might be looking at several hours of bodily contortions and and massive blood and sweat loss. However if the answers are "No", then you might just have some moisture buld up in the vents from letting it sit all winter.
Good luck.
Good luck.

When I bought my 1990, the previous owner had taken the car to a Chev dealer with the simple instructions: "fix it right." So they replaced the stock heater core with a new stock heater core.
I've got the receipt. Over $1,800.

Man up and do it yourself... it will save a lot of money. And you will have the satisfaction and pride of knowing that you did it yourself

When I did mine, part cost me $42.50, from rockauto.com. I have on hand various extensions, u-joint sockets, ratcheting wrenches, stubby wrenches, baggies and marker pens.
Good luck.
