I have that on the engine with the listed modifications. The nitrous is for kicks and puts over 400 to the rear wheels.

Engine power used to be measured on a dyno using a brake on the crankshaft to place a load on the engine, hence brake horsepower.

Useless trivia

Yes, the lt4 heads are equipped with aluminum comp cam roller rockers with beehive springs and are angled valves. The heads produce a 10.8/1 cr. The sae advertised hp is 330. Some say it's more like 345, but that's all conjecture. So I'm really only looking for 70-80 ponies.[/QUOTE]

Yes, you are only looking for about 70 addditional horsepower.
Using the $50/hp rule of thumb, you need to budget about $3500 for this exercise.

????????????

1)The factory LT4 rockers were made by Crane...

2)The factory valve springs were oval (vs round on LT1), I don't think beehive springs even existed in 1996..

Of course, you're right. This is why I love this forum, I always get to learn. So long as I know a little more today then I knew yesterday, I am headed in the right direction. Thank you!

Most of the info you need is already out there. You could easily sink $2k into portwork on your heads, which you will need if you want 400HP at the wheels. Add the LT4 hotcam with a tune and you're close, but you need a little more aggressive cam. 1.7 rockers with a hotcam can squeeze a little extra. CF user Nathan Plemons ran this combo.

I would not do the 160 t-stat. Go no lower than 180 or you will get excessive engine wear and you want to cook all moisture out of your oil. Get a tune to turn your fans on earlier or invest in an aluminum radiator if you're worried about cooling.

Ford SVO 24# or LS1 injectors are a good alternative to OEM gear. Again invest in a tune, PCMforless is a mail order shop with a good reputation, but you really want a dyno tune.

Quick Reply: 400 bhp?
