Water wetter: does it provide any freeze protection?
I often cruise up to my dad's place where it can get down to 10-20 degrees at night.
If I run Water Wetter, and need to put in antifreeze anyways for freeze protection, it seems like the water wetter would be a waste of money.
I'd like to get a little more performance out of my radiator, and not have to undo it everytime I head to the mountains.

no, Water Wetter won't help with freeze.
What is does is improve the surface tension between the metal and the coolant. This improves heat transfer.
How cold does it get? I use 70% water, 30% coolant and the Water Wetter. This works great, and adds enough coolant to keep the cooling system clean.

W/W is soap, it works best with no antifreeze, dont use it as a replacement for antifreeze, ive been running that stuff for over ten years, mostly when i raced mottocross outdoors, it always performed well.

Summer and race season I run 82% water 18% coolant & 1 btl of WW.
Winter storage I go back to 50/50.
The only reason I us the 18% is for the anti corrosion properties of coolant.

I thought that the minerals in tap water would build up in my engine etc.
After some research I found the thought process to go back to tap.
Distilled and "pure" forms of water is described as "Hungry" water.
The natural functions of the chemical make up of water is absorb minerals and trace elements. The water "attracts" metals, salts, minerals etc.
Using water free from these contaminants means that the water is looking to be saturated. It will aborb what it can. So if the water does not have trace metals and minerals it WILL get them. Where? From your engine block.
Distilled or Tap? Darned if you do, darned if you don't.
Food for thought. No pun intended.

Matt, I know what you mean about aggressive water. The mineral stuff is less aggressive, fouls the pipes. The soft water eats them. I'm not sure about deionized, but I'm guessing they have to protect it from the pipes in labs because it'll leach minerals out.
Hopefully the antifreeze prevents all that.
Supposedly water wetter does to, so it seems pointless to run water wetter with antifreeze unless you need the cold protection.
So since I already need the antifreeze, I'll just put some Dawn in there.

Next question, I mean, I have to use Redline products on something.
I just cooked a turkey dinner and there's burnt turkey skin on my pots and pans.
Will water wetter work?
And, does Redline have any high-temp stickers I can put on my stove?

I just had this scenario in Richmond at the national event...down here in Florida I run water and two bottles of water wetter...I got to Richmond and realized I had no anti freeze..oops!...it went down to 26 degrees and I was OK..when I got home I changed the mix to 1 gallon of anti freeze, 2 bottles of water wetter and the rest distilled water...seems to be cooling just fine...

FWIW...
Redline says one bottle per system.
Two bottles do not do any better than one, in fact it may not be as effective as one.
Save your money?????

Adding antifreeze for freeze protection doesn't negate the benefits of the Water Wetter. WW does provide for anti corrosion and water pump lubricant, which is duplicated in antifreeze, but the WW will still facilitate a more efficient transfer of heat from the engine to the coolant and the coolant to the radiator.

Hungry water, no kidding ?, I have only ran the stuff in all alum motors like my 4.6 cobra and dirt bikes, I have seen tap water destroy a set of engine cases in a season (not mine luckly). I ran one of Ricky Carmichael's R&D motors from 1988 till 03 and the radiators, cases impeler housing was like new, no kidding, but this was a motor that was torn down every ten races for a rebuild so that could contribute. anyway just my experiance with the stuff. so this is my first experiance with somthing other than alum, oh and coaster running redline in the kitchen is fine

Tap water is different from city to city, state to state.
Well water, lake water, river water, aquafers...
What is disolved in there is up to the water and the environment.
Sulpher, lime, iron, salt, chlorine, ph levels vary... etc.
The water needs to attract watever it can.
So I am sure some tap water is worse than others.
