Default Help! antifreeze smell when heat is on

I only get the smell when the heat is on, does the water flow through the heater core when the heater is off or only when its on?

I'm not sure about the coolant flow question. But I do know if the fan is on that it will help the smell to be distributed.
Time for a heater core . Do you have any residue on the windsheild?

Default anti-freeze

Mark, the heater valve is part of the tubes over on the right side of the car that has the vacuum line to it. The vacuum holds the valve in the off position.
If you have the electronic climate control, When you turn off the heat, the programmer ports vacuum to the heater valve, and the valve should restrict the water flow, but not eliminate the water in the heater.
If you have the manual heater, a cable should hold the heater valve in the off position.
If you have the anti-freeze smell, check your carpets for moisture. If it's wet over there, you need a heater core. But, if you have a coolant leak that is spraying, you might be picking up the smell from under the hood through the cowl vent that is right in front of the windshield.

Umm, yes, residue on the windshield. I kinda knew it, but wanted some one to tell me something different.

Chris:
New radiator and no leaks outside in the engine compartment, manual heater control but no moisture on the carpet, I guess I will just put a heater core in and be done with it, then everything will be brand new. Not a fun job when you 6'5" and 265 lbs. But my girlfriend is a good gofer.

It's not a fun project but it's not too bad. Expect a full day of work.

Also, a FSM will help. If you don't have one, there should be a few how-to's around here.
