change to a carb 1988

carb vs fuel injection
If your interested in fuel milage stay with a properly tuned fuel injection. If your looking for performance per dollar spent go with an annular discharge carb with a wide band for tunability. The carb has proven to make more power but usually lacks in throttle respounse and gas milage , but doesnt have to, if tuned properly

lol it's a tired old record, most of the haters have already posted. I have a carbed 86, I like to tinker w/ it. It may be old technology but my dinosaur carbed vette will smoke the efi-fueled haters' cars.
That said, EFI is good stuff.. much better for cold starts, better fuel economy, very respectable performance and wonderful throttle response.
I had my reasons for switching... what are yours?

How about helping the guy instead of telling him he's stupid? He didn't ask if he should put a carb on his car he asked what's needed to do it. If you don't agree with his thoughts or don't have any info move on to another thread.
Dude it's your car do what you want with it.

EFI will give you better gas mileage and probably better overall driveability but, unless you are really good at diagnosing electronic faults, many more "leave it beside the road" breakdowns. The old mechanical systems have been proven for decades and, with just a little attention now and then will keep running to get you home. Just keep a spare HEI ignition module ($30) and a screwdriver in the storage compartment. If you want to get the same or more HP than an EFI it will take more attention over the years to keep the mechanical systems up to snuff. Going "retro" all depends on your local area and their smog check laws. There are also some hood clearance problems with the C4's to work out but I think some guys have already done that. Good luck.

why don't you tell us what's wrong and let us help you. we can be the brains, and you can be the brawn.
the TPI fuel injection is a pretty complicated balance of parts and technology, and easy to misdiagnose and go the wrong way.
what is the problem???
my vette is an 86, and has 130,000 miles.
not trouble free, but still fixable when it screws up

You guys looking down your noses at old technology should stop drinking beer; the production of it is very old technology. And while you're at it, stop driving cars that run on fossil fuel, it's old technology.
So stop driving your slow vettes.....they are old technology.. unless you convert to a hybrid motor... maybe a fuel cell... electric.....
Tio, you are considering switching to carb becasue of costs involving EFI repair and maintenance. You should reconsider, switching to carb will cost several hundred dollars.

Let us know why you converted to a carbed car, the TPI must have spurned you in some way.

Then enlighten me as to why you changed and what you are now running with a superior carbed setup.

why dont you just let the guy get the info he wants, and be done with it? why do you care if he runs carb or not? its his car let him do what he wants.... i read all the posts and it seems like there are way too many a-holes... isnt this forum to help instead of hinder?

The most inportant factor in switching to a carb will be your intake selection especially if you plan to use your stock hood because many of them won't fit. If you are going to buy an Edelbrock intake go to their site and if you look hard enough you will find the height to the top of the carb pad for all the Edelbrock intakes. This information will be VERY important unless you are planning to run an aftermarket hood or unless you plan on adding a scoop of some sort. I have a carb'd C4 and I added a Toledo Pro super hi rise hood so I could run a victor jr intake and have plenty of for proper airflow. Best of luck to you and your project!

the car has a mis as if it had a radical cam in it. it get worse after 160 to 180f. I have cleaned the TB. changed the fuel pump and filters due to presure drop at the rail. full tune up with new module, wires, cap, roter, and plugs. checked all injectors and found all to have 17.6 oms, check all injector wires with noid tester. and tne mis is stell there. if I come to a stop the car will jump or surge.
