Default How hot it to hot for ATF? Whats your temp?

I just replaced my 4l60E transmission with one that is built stronger. The ATF in the old transmission at times was as high as 225 degrees. With the new one, I have seen it as high as 206 degrees.

Are these temps to high? What temps do you guys see?

I think 206f is not too high.225, on the other hand,is,in my opinion.Maybe ask PeteK, he's a whiz with transmissions.

180-200 seems to be the typical range in my part of the country.

Thanks for the replys guys. Good info in the link as well. I am tempted to take out my radatior and trans cooler and pressure wash the cooling fins on both of them. They are looking a little dirty, hopefully that will bring it down a few degrees.

Do not pressure wash the fins, it will bend them , as they are very thin.
You have to clean it one fin at a time, unless someone else has a better idea.
And get a B&M stacked cooler. Mine runs 170 with 3.75 gears and 2800rpm Vigilante with an external cooler and a BeCool radiator which has a large cooler within the radiator.

Ideal temperature is 160F - 175F, but hard to achieve.
