ANY ONE RUNNING 28 INCH TALL TIRES ON REAR OR JUST 26 INCH?????
Needing more traction, and 26 MT ET Streets aren't cutting it. I think I need a 28 inch for better contact patch and to help tame the damn 1st gear in my 700R4 (with 3.73 rear gears). Anyone have experience using this tall of a tire. Sitting there, it looks like it may work, but these cars squat so damn hard that I am afraid of hitting the top of the tire.

You needn't worry. Our own mackeyred96 uses 325 50 15(28 inches tall) BFG Drag Radials. How's 1.633 60' get you? He drives it in, techs, runs, then goes home .
I'm sure He'll chime in

Use to run the MT ET Streets that were 26" tall. Went with the 325-50-15 BFG Drag Radials like John Mackey. Got two good runs with these tires before Rod Bearing went out. They will fit but you have to grind the calibers alittle and add a 7/16 spacer to fit with the 15X10 rims. These tires look real nasty from the back. Have the 4.09 gears in my six speed. My car was lowered previously about an 1"-- Had to raise the car back up so it would not rub going over bumps. If you want to drive to the track and get consistent 60' times, then this is the way to go. Will give another update when my 396 MTI Stroker motor is finished this month.

Wel, I used 315 drag radials, got 1.56 60 ft times. Added the 3.73 gears, all poly bushings, complete suspension rebuild, and MT ET Streets expecting some nasty times, but....got 1.87 short times instead. Used 11 psi, spinning (no juice) bad, felt and looked like good weight transfer and squating hard. Eased into it and got a 1.77 short time. I think a 28 in slick will be the ticket with the 3.73 gears, but unsure of the clearance. I assume that a 28 inch drag radial will maintain its size, unlike a bias ply slick which may grow about an inch by the end of the 1/4 mile. I am using the 15 X 10 wheel, ground the calipers, no spacers needed. Hell may sell the 700R4 and Vigilante 3500 stall and get a TH400!

One thing you guys are missing, is that with my 4A I've got 4.09 rear gears. This gives me a final drive of 3.80. So you 4A cars with 3.73 will slow down (Like Panuzzo did, who went to this Combo) but It was worht the consistency he's getting from these tires. Now you 6m guys will need 4.27 gears to get the most out of this combo. I'm sorry I didn't go with the 4.27 rears for my set up seeing that I'm shifting at 6,700.
One more thing these 325x15 are much easer to get than those 315x17.
I'm the first with this tire combo but I've got a feeling that I won't be the last. :yesnod: :yesnod: :blueangel:

Hey John, Will that tire combo keep me from shifting into 5th at the end of the 1/4?

I don't know what your RPM range/RPM at the stripe?
But If your shifting in the last few hundred feet , you won't need to shift to 5th.

If you go to the 28" tires you should be good to app 114 mph going over the line in 4th.. That is if you only turn 6300 rpm..
When I ran the 26" tires I'd run 108mph @ 6000 rpm (3.73) Now with the 28" my mph fell off to 105 at 5500 rpm.. & I lost about .11 -.12 in ET BUT my 60' times have been 1.75-1.76 EVERY time..(they used to be 1.69-1.71.. most of the time.. but sometimes when the track was ?? I'd lose it , & have real bad 60' (1.90- -1.98) & I'm after (consistency) so I'm willing to give up some 60' ..& win.. :blueangel: Called another one right..

Re: ANY ONE RUNNING 28 INCH TALL TIRES ON REAR OR JUST 26 INCH????? (SDBOJRAB)
Thanks for all the input, but my combo is different than the ones listed here. The question I really need answered is this:
Has anyone actually run a 28 X 10.5 X 15 full slick (bias ply, NOT drag radial) on a 1984-1996 Corvette? If so, any clearance problems.
Thanks,
Scott

I don't see any reason why they won't fit.
