Default New ECM ??

Over the past couple of weeks, the security and sys lights have occasionally flashed on my 93. The service ASR light also comes on. It hasn't made a perceptable difference when it occured while already running. A couple of times I have had to wait a few min to get started. The codes I've pulled are 41 ECM 7 DTC 71 Serial Data Circuit (lost communication). Yestarday I started the car but it ran god awful, missing and spitting and refusing to run below 1800 rpm. I shut the car off, opened my hood, and smacked the ECM with the heel/palm of my hand. The car started and ran perfectly.

Do I need a new ECM?

How long do I have before it completely dies?

What is the best source for these?

Thanks in advance for all of your great replies!

We carry ECMs for all GM and GMC Makes and Models

So, the old smack em up the side of head trick worked. Probably a loose connection in on your ECM PCB. try the guys below. I found them on E-bay. They are in Davie, Fl.

I am having the same problems with my '92. Exactly the same symptoms. I am having trouble locating an ECM. Good Luck

Your ECM is under the hood ... right over the battery.

I think catfan123 meant he couldn't find a replacement.

I've decided to buy a ECM as I've had to smack the thing a couple of times on Thursday. I attempted to buy a Borg-Warner unit at Pep Boys. My problem is they list three different part numbers for a 93. The oem numbers listed in their computer dosen't match the number on the sticker on my ECM. Does anyone now how to I figure out which one to order?

Thanks!

I'm not home so I don't have the number but there is only one 92/93 ECM P/N.
