switched to mobil 1 in my '84, a big change
a couple of weeks ago i went on ahead and put mobil 1 syntec in my car. my highway driving oil temps dropped almost 15 degrees. i am very pleased with this. the oil is well worth the money.

Cool, its a good oil, BUT how did the oil drop the temps 15 degrees?I even have a oil cooler and didnt see much change when I tried mobil one..The oil is suppoed to have a higher temp. breakdown resistance, but not supercool the oil.
Then again maybe youre engine was running too hot with dino oil and the Mobil brought it back to normal operating temps by getting in every nook and cranny.
Either way its good to hear someone reported positive signs from switching.
Btw, when I switched to Mobil one, I got a few leaks..very small where it just kinda dripped out onto the block but not dripping all over the place.
My engine was built with all new fel pro gaskets and etc and the leak started a the intake manifold front about a few days after I started using it.
:(
But its not making a mess...keep an eye out to see if it gets through somewhere.
Thats some slippery stuff!!!

I think the synthetic oil has a better thermal conductivity rating. It will pull heat away from the places the oil goes and spread it through out the block. I'm not 100% sure on that, but I've been told this by a mechanic.

My temps dropped a little but my gas milage went up as did my oil pressure. I'm very happy with Mobil1.

When I went to Mobil 1 there was no noticeable change in temperature but my oil pressure now runs higher. I haven't noticed a change in mileage but I have noticed some seepage around the rear valve cover bolts. I was planning to replace the valve covers this winter and I guess this will give me more incentive to do it. Anyone have a "favorite" supplier for valve covers? I would like to have something polished, perhaps chrome.

Wow, 248 seems awful high! :bb I highest that my 84 got that I can remember is 235. But I always used Mobil 1. Just sold my 1984 today :( Still have my CE, but I already miss it.
