Ready to call the tow truck
93 LT1 Auto 47,000mi
-Was getting Code16 (bad Opti)
-Brand new MSD Opti (Getting spark at all cyls.)
-Quadruple checked plug wires
-New Plugs
-Brand new Ford injectors 24#
-NOID test: Pulses at all injectors
-New fuel filter
-Siphoned and replaced fuel
-Fuel pressure:43lbs (will hold all day)
-New ICM & Coil
-Swaped ECM with a known working ECM
-Snap-On scanner shows no fault
-VATS disabled
-Cranks But no start, Will sputter out the intake
only after cranking. Never a reaction while cranking?
-MSD Tech says: "If your getting spark the Opti
is not defective." I didnt believe him, exchanged it and
still no luck!

Stange. If its pulsing gas and spittin fire, then there should be no problems. Does it even try to start? Only other thing would be air since you have fuel and spark. Try checking your oil level as sometimes there is a sensor to keep you from starting on really low oil. I know I am not much help and I am sure someone else will chime in here.

Well, towing it somewhere else means they're going to replace all that stuff all over again with cheap Chinese parts, then call you back with the same result.

All this was replaced trouble shooting the same no-start condition.
Checked and doublechecked ign. wires. It cranks and no start, but when I stop cranking it will sputter a little once or twice? In all reality I would never have it towed, But I just cant think of anything else.

Thats a good point Fred, I didnt know the module could effect timing?
Ill try that next. New MSD went on without a glitch, It can only go on
one way due to the splined shaft. I hear AutoZone or most of the chain
stores can check your ICM is this true?

What would would cause a 180? MSD can only go on one way, Besides
I had the same problem with my original OPTI? Im not trying to argue
but I never messed with the new distributor out of the box and there
is no indication in the instructions that it could be installed 180 deg off.

what kind of scanner are you using? This may sound silly but I had a bad ECM that threw no codesand the sensors were all way out of wack. Caused the car to dosome weird stuff. The mechanic told me he was suprised it was even running.
A) fuel pressure is goodat the rail so the only thing would be is suggestin bad gas but your refilled.
B) Check the timing. MSD is nice..adjustable. Check the optical sensor voltage from the distributor to the ecm. I believe its the red wire.
Not sure how else to help. I've learned a bit watching my mechanic work on my 93. Coughing up a few bucks is sometimes worth it, especially when it is sitting in this beautiful weather. Find a competent mechanic

Yes, they CAN be installed 180* off, I also learned that the hard way!
If 180* off it won't throw codes, may try to start, puff some smoke out of the intake, but it will not start. Ask around, I am positive I am right, been there and done that.

I think he means the rotor, or the extension, not the cap, if that's where you're going. the extensionis only keyed on one end.

:o But seriously, if you had the problem to start with, the module would be a good possibility. Sometimes Auto Zone can check them. I think they're about $30

On my 85 with the stock HEI distributor, I tried starting it with the cap off by 180 degrees, and it spit and belched and backfired out the intake.
