Default Transgo Stick shift kit

I was told transgo offers a full manual control kit for the 700r4 and it retains engine braking. Anyone one have experiance with this?

I'm confused on what this kit actually does. Full manual control... how?

Are you sure it is not a full manual valve body instead?

I have the 700R4 kit in my car, it is shipped with the instructions to set it up as a full manual tranny. You can either do the normal install which still allows full auto operation, or you can install with the stick shift options and have full manual control of the transmission. IE, you shift it, or it does not shift. If you put it in Drive then it is in 4th gear and you start in 4th gear.

The "normal" install allows normal shifting, but, you have full downshift control at your fingertips. You downshift and the transmission says "ok" and it drops down to the selected gear.

From your other posts, the stick-shift option sounds lik what you want.

Im not sure what it is. There was a discussion over on thridgen.org (camaros) about manual valve body. People mentioned the tci and other companies, and how they dont have engine braking. Then someone mentioned the transgo Stick Shift kit
on this page http://www.txchange.com/sk.htm about 1/2 way down

700-2&3

THM 700
1981 up
Shift Command: Holds 1st , 2nd and 3rd to any rpm; Back shifts to 3rd, 2nd
and 1st at any rpm; Competition, heavy duty, off road and pro-street; Optional stick shift

He said this had the same features of the tci and including engine braking and was really the trick setup.

Ive emailed transgo and am waiting to hear back.

Thanks for the info tom. I take it you didnt do the full manual version. I also take it that it will retain engine braking?

Correct, I installed the NON-stickshift option (a few less holes to drill and ports to plug). I have full engine braking in all gears. If I downshift to third, it downshifts and the engine brakes. If I downshift to any gear it will go. Say you are in 3rd, and downshift to 2nd at 80. It will do it. You may not like the results, but it will do it. If you go to first, beware!

I don't have a shift kit but I shift down and engine brakes anyway, or what have I been doing?

Yes the stock tranny will engine brake. Mine does and i use it all the time. The problem i was having was the aftermarket manual valve bodies on the market didnt offer engine braking. I want full manual mainly to prevent automatic downshifting of any kind. This can be dangerous if you take a corner to fast and the car decides to gear down. Instanly doubles the rear wheel torque and the car does a 360. I'll be purchansing the shift kit on tuesday, as well as an auxilary cooler, remote filter kit, and a shifter if i can ever find one for the vette. Anyone???
