1992 LT1 Oil Questions
What type of Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil should I put in my 1992 LT1, 5W-30 or 10W-30 or something else (I really want to put in what is recommended)? Also how many quarts does it take?
Thanks Guys

the oil type (viscosity) should depend on the outdoor temps the car will experience. IMHO unless you see less than 0 deg F, use 10W30 as explained in the manual. don't forget the filter (Delco #PF52)

I use the K&N oil filter. I like the nut on the bottom for easy removal.
As for the oil... I need to clarify the 4.5 qt statement - that's because .5 quarts go into the new empty filter.
The lower number is the cold flow... GM recommends the 5-30 for all conditions, because the big number refers to the hot viscosity.
10-30 is really good (and GM recommends this) if you live in a desert condition.

Like wise- Mobil 1 5w30 w/ K&N filter for a 92 LT1. I wanted to give my baby the best or at least what comes highly recommended . A short time after changing the oil I noticed a small puddle of oil starting to grow on my garage floor. Then I read that changing to a synthetic oil from dino oil may cause your seals to soften and leak if you have an older auto. For now I’m staying with M1.
