Default 96 LT4 single T74gts Turbo Dyno vid and graph

Hey all,

I have been hiding out over in the FI section for the last year now, but have recently finished up a very long and elaborate project of turbocharging my 96 LT4 collectors edition. and below are the initial dyno pulls fort he startof tuning before noticing I had only one of the twin intank pumps running and the other was defective. so only two runs, and there will be more coming as tuning progresses after installing another pump. hope you enjoy!

for any interested, the setup is below.

Chris

NOTE: I have found that you need to hit the switch to microsoft windows media player for the sound to work on a few computers. if you did not hear anything that should fix the glitch!

Chris

Kick ass man!!

Congrats

What's up with all the smoke from the tail pipes when you let off the throttle?

I would agree that that is kick azz.

As far as the white smoke my guess is: When he let off the gas the waste gate opened up, dumped the boost and a bunch of unburnt fuel went into the cats/mufflers. I would guess that if it has cats it wont for long.

I would love to see pictures of the engine and how you ran the plumbing.

Chris,

that is an awesome setup! It's nice to see someone else with no opticrap I went a similar route but definitely wont be making that kind of power !!

That is one badass ride !!!!!!!!

* Out of curiousity, what 58mm TB are you using and did you check for full throttle ?

I am using a Holley 58, and yes checked for full throttle and am not getting it.. it has the bell crank for the 95 LT1 on there which has the wire end much closer to the shaft pivot point and is only allowing me about 62% throttle opening according to the TPS which I calibrated from idle position to WOT by hand to get a full sweep. I just recently swapped TB's with my dad's 96 Holley 58mm unit and it definately woke the car up over 4500 RPM.. gained another 600 rpm worth of pull seems like and added some punch when boost comes on. now if I can get Racetronix to get in touch with me and figure a solution out with replacing or repairing a bad pump I will be able to dial the boost up with a safe air fuel ratio and really start working on getting the timing tweaked and advanced to reap full benefit of this motor. my goals as of right now are to get her to 650-700 at the wheels without changing cams.. I think with all the little issues I have right now fixed and pushing closer to 22-23 pounds of boost with a great tune it is attainable after all another 9 pounds of boost is quite a bit.. then when that gets boring I will swap to a more aggressive cam and do some porting on the heads and intake manifold. then the new goal may require a slightly larger compressor wheel.. something like a 81 or 85mm. but that is a ways off.. gotta finish the first phase before I go nuts with it.

Chris,

I would have to guess if you were on the dyno with 62% throttle theres much more in it as it is. If i might add that 700 at the wheels with a stock idle, stock heads is insane. I honestly think changine heads and cam would be a waste of time since you are at the point of having too much for the street already ! Where did you decide to mount the dfi unit ? also im curious to know what you did for a coil setup. I removed my ecm so my dfi sits in its place. I opted to use the stock coil location and run a coil wire but dont like running a 30" coil wire so i might install a coil by the distributor on the firewall. Also curious about your fuel lines, I had to go with an fitting on the rear and we used an external regulator mounted by the coolant reservoir. pics !!

ALmost forgot to ask.. how was yur coolant temps during the dyno pulls? Im using a mezziere as well and was curious to see if it can cope with the extra heat from being under load for extended periods.

here are some pictures.. took about 10 minutes to fab up the bracket and there is an existing stud in the firewall to mount it too. so far no issues whatsoever and uses a much shorter coil wire and the stock wiring from the passenger side fuel rail cover is easy to direct over to it.

as for the fuel system here is a shot of it...

I am using -10 feed to the regulator then split after the regulator to twin -8an lines to the back of the rails.

I am also running twin intank walbro GSS340M pumps.. the fuel system should be good for about 1000rwhp.. but my 83lb/hr injectors are estimated to about 850rwhp or so before they are approaching their duty cycle limits.. I plan on eventually needing 96'ers..

have any pics of your setup?

Chris that looks awesome! I like your coil setup on the firewall. i had concerns with my coil being in the stock location and having a 30" wire but msd assured me anything less than 36" would be fine. i think I'll switch it there when i get a chance. I might be heading up to the shoppe tonight, If not tonight for sure tommorow. I'll get some pics up asap. I havn't taken many pics yet because i have all the rail covers and other small detail things at home and i was waiting to bring the car home to clean it all up and then put everything together.

Diel,

yeah I was pretty much space limited on where I could mount my coil so when I discovered it would work there it was a no brainer for my setup.. looking forward to seeing the pics man!

here is another video from another angle with some music made by another forum member..
