Default Update on last years motor failure...

well fellas I am back in action as of yesterday at about 7pm.

As some of you may recall my 434ci motor left loose last year and basically took out every component that moves in the motor. Everything was ruined expect the RRs.

Crank, rods, pistons, lifters, timing gears, distributor, PRs, valves, even a few of the sparkplugs were history. the motor still ran in the above condition too! Shook a little though.

I have been putting the motor together over the last month slowly and steadily. Friday and Saturday I boaled into it and put the motor back in place and put some fire to it yesterday.

The beast fired with less than a 1/2 turn of the motor and purred like a pissed off lion. The motor went back together with basically the same components as before. I debated over going with super high compression, but opted not to. I did not want to overstress the D44 any more, and while I know that alone would put me into the 9s with the car, I did not also want to loose the ability to cruise around on the street with pump gas. So back in went the flat top pistons and compression remained at 11.5. I did however get a little crazy with the cam. I went from .650 lift to .714 with about the same duration, which might account for the angry idle the car now has.

Took it out for about a 10 mile ride and she did not miss a beat. Its a great feeling to complete a project like this and feel the power of the end result.

I could not help but crank on it coming back up the hill to the dealership. She definately has got some serious pull.

Probably going to try to hit the track this next weekend before we leave for Disney Land and see what she can crank out in the 1/4

Here are a few pictures of it on the stand. A few of you asked about the crank trigger, you can see it down my the balancer. Also the adapter for the oil filter will be for an accumulator. Cheap insurance in the event oil pressure would be lost during operation. That will be getting installed this week before racing.

Also I am considering a moroso 4 vane vacuum pump for the motor. Not sure if I wanna spent ~800 dollar for one though.

Give me your prediction for this years new best ET...........While working on the car, I found another little trick for my front suspension that should yield me some more ET in my 60' times.

Also wanna try to relocate my battery to the rear compartment.

Here is my crew chief My little buddy! Kid will not let me out in the garage without being there. Can identify everything in the motor by name and function already! Not bad for 4yrs old. Also a HUGE thanks to my father that is always there lending a helping hand!

very healthy for kids, and some day it will come full circle 11.5 is a pretty nice ratio. I'd love to see and here that puppy on the street. Bet you don't get challenged that much-if ever.

Congrats Jesse. Glad to see it up and running. I did figure out what was wrong with mine. I had a mismatched runner gasket at the EGR port. Had to cut a gasket to match it correctly. Got it running yesterday and put about 50 miles on it. Running great and no trouble codes. The chip is working well. Hope to have some dyno time next month. Good luck with your car this year.

Nice looking engine there, I think the smile on the little guys face is from him thinking that someday he will be driving your Vette. That's a wild cam you've put in, should be a ground shaker. Good luck.

Maybe I missed the post, but what went wrong last season? Finally got the tuned nailed on mine. Put about 150 top down miles on her yesterday. Dispatched an unlucky and surprised chap in a new turbo 911 I predict 9.9s @ 133

If it runs as good as it looks it should fly. Congrats on the progress.
