Default MiniRam for $299--is it great?

I have someone going to sell me a miniram with fuel rails for $299 plus shipping--pictures look great and the guy had it powdercoated a color and it looks great, Currently I have a superram on my 85 383. What will the differences be between the two if I decide to put the mini on instead? My engine is a 383 with great heads and wild cam and some other great parts. I like the miniram look because its so small and compact. I DON'T know which model it is. I need any opinions before I buy this.

300 bucks for a Mini Ram is great, it's actually a little to low of a price for me. does it look good in the pictures? you either have great luck or something is not right with that mini. how does the area where the gaskets look? does it look like it's been hogged out?

That is sweet deal for a miniram. What kind of transmission do you have? Any specs on the cam and heads?

the main question is, does he even want a miniram at all. there's alot about superram vs. miniram in the archives, there are several on this board that have done both. and what i've gathered, its close to a wash. but others will hopefully chime in..........

A modded 383 w/ a Keisler. I think the Mini might be happy there.

I'd want to know about & see all the machined surfaces & ports.

Default miniram

A miniram is a very basic peice of metal. if it isn't broken or in peices I would buy it without hesitation. If you decide against it let me give him a shot.

I figured it sounded like a steal, even if I don't keep it--I would resell the piece for profit-I wouldn't want to pass this up, and yes I have a 5sp keisler tranny and my heads are 170int/60ext--edelbrock 60999, cam is a stage 3 Comp cam, I'll need get the new specs on it, car went back into shop for cam upgrade. If I decide to keep the mini, I'll probably sell my S.R., I bought it here on the forum, this S.R. is polished to a FINE chrome shine (base, runners and top) Even the top lid is machined down to a flat chromelike surface--for show quality. when I get car back, I'll take pics. Is the intake important in burning a chip, I have a friend here in my area that will burn me a program, he ran a computer on my system while I drove around--so I was going to burn me a chip from those readings, will I need a reburn later for a miniRam swap ?

EDIT: I was told by TPIS that only the miniram (part 500-505) will fit my 85. I'm waiting to hear back from this guy. Anyone know any differently. The edelbrock heads I have are an identical fit as the stock were. I'm a little nervous about this now...any advice ??

JUst make sure it's not a miniram I design. These were not very good units, and you may find it hard to resell, or make any money on it.

$600 is still not a bad price for that complete setup you got ld85--how do you like the MR compared to a SR. I have a 383--the thing I like already about this thing is its ONLY 1 PIECE --no tubes or top plenum to leak out the vacuum.....

Congrats again on the MR purchase, your will love teh simplicity of it

I agree, $600 was a good price, it was used and it was an early MR-1 model but it was still a great piece.

In retrospect I would have stayed with the Miniram and installed 3.73 gears.

The Superram is nice, and was easier to tune and I did not have to change gears,,, but I did from 3.07 to 3.45's, primarily because of the ZF tranny and I was not planning on running over 6000 rpm anyway.

I will run the Superram this summer and give it an honest shot,, and if I dont like it, I will change over to the Stealth like Joby did since it appears to be the middle ground between the SR & MR.
