Default Anyone recommend Optima Battery for 91 Coupe?

Anyone out there who has had experience with an Optima battery. Have been told that they are very reliable and that the "Yellow Top" has some deep cycle
advanges over the "Red Top" Optima. Anyone know were to get them?

I looked into this no too long ago & found that the these batteries, which use
the spiral cell technology, are not yet made to fit C4's. Something to do with
a interference problem with the top of the battery with the, I think, cruise
control hardware?

I was interested in this after reading that they are using this battery on the C5, & it reduces weight while having a high energy density.

Just put one in the 92 and had to cut one of the top post off
to clear the bracket the ecm sits on. Other than that I think
I'm going to like it. :D  :D

The red top is great. I would stay away from the yellow top (deep cycle) battery. I had a yellow top and when my battery drained because of the lights being left on, I couldn't jump start it with another car. With the deep cycle batteries, you have to recharge it with an A/C Battery Charger. The red top isn't deep cycle, so it works well.

I would stay away from Optima's in Vette's from my personal experience. I have had Optima's in 1990 S-10 blazer, 1996 Yukon with great results, but it didn't like my 1990 Vette. I had numerous problems with it, wouldn't hold charge, and it bench-tested fine. I replaced it with a sears die-hard gold series, and it is perfect. I have used sears die-hard gold series before, Interstate battery, and Optima in my Vette over the past 11 years. The sears gold series is the best. I am running a 160 amp alternator and modified motor, so this may acount for the problems, but why spend double and tempt fate!
By the way, it fit fine in my car, tight, but fine.

Optima doesn't list a correct part # for later C4s... I did put one of comperable physical size in my 96 but had to make some modifications...

1. The Optima is about .5 - .75 inches wider, so I had to cut the sides of the battery tray down to make them flush with the baseplate so that it would sit down and I could use the stock battery hold down...

2. I also had to notch out the cruise bracket so that the top + post wouldn't contact it... Here's a pic...

It's been a good batteery for me though, I've had it for almost 2 years... It's an 880 CCA model compared to the stock 530 CCA (I think)...

got a optima yellow top for my 95 vert .cut notches in the battery tray to make it fit. works great. have a little interference with the top positive post hitting the brace.Slipped a rubber dampner in between them and it's fine.

Be very careful with that... There's quite a bit of vibration in cars... If you wear through that bumper you could have an exploding battery or a car fire... I thought about it at first, but decided that notching the CC bracket was the best/safest way to go...
