Default Oil change question

Being new to C4 ownership..I was wondering about the oil change frequencies with Mobil 1. It's not that I'm cheap...but at about $4 a quart for Mobil 1.....

I plan on changing the oil and filter at 3000 miles....at 6000 just the filter....and then at the next 3000, oil and filter again. Is that a reasonable rotation plan or not?

RoadFever,
Just my two pennies, but while you have the car up to change the oil, you might as well change the filter too. I change oil and filter every 3,000-3,500. Walmart often has Mobil 1 on sale in the 5 quart jugs. I stock up for a couple changes when they have a sale going on. Enjoy your C4!

I change the filter every 3,000 miles and add a quart of Mobil 1. I do this 3 times then start over with fresh Mobil 1. I have been doing this with all my vehicles for the past ten years with no problems. [IMG][/IMG] :chevy

My opinion and what I do. Change oil and filter every 3000 mi, but at least twice a year regardless of milage. I usually change in the spring before the heavy driving season and then in the fall for the winer months. Seems to work. Sid.

Change synthetic motor oil every 3000 miles is a waste of oil. Mobil used to advertise that their synthetic oil could go 25,000 between changes. I go either 6000 miles or wait for my change oil light to come on. Usually 6,000 miles comes first.

I change it when the "change oil light" comes on, I haven't been keeping good records with this car like I usually do.

I change everything every 3,000-3500 miles. mainly due to habit. Heard you could go 6-7000 with the stuff though. I personally am ok with changing it more often.

Change synthetic motor oil every 3000 miles is a waste of oil
I couldn't agree more. If you're changing every 3000, you might as well use natural oil at 1/3 the price. If you're using synthetic, take advantage of the fact that it will hold up longer. Why else would you use it? Because you like spending the extra money?

Also, no offense, but I think you guys have it backwards on the filter change. Instead of skipping the oil change every other time, skip the filter. Unless you have a problem with your engine that it's grinding up metal by the pound, the filter could easily be skipped every other change. They are designed to do much heavier duty than that.

OK..thanks For the time being I'm going to follow my plan as first posted. But also, I will try to contact and get some first hand info from Mobil. I'll post the findings.
