Default Code 36- is it my Opti?

Is a Code 36, on a '92, Optispark related?
Car just dies with no warning, no Check Engine light.
'92 converted to a used '95 Opti, now with MSD 6A and TPIS coil.
Auto Xray says "36 Response time too long"
Haynes manual says it is a Distributor Ignition fault. (36 means something different on TPI cars)
Car runs and drives with no high RPM miss.
Mostly dies when idling, periodically tries to die at low RPM cruising but recovers when I manipulate the gas pedal.

Anybody feel like beating a dead horse?
