Default Best exhaust(power&sound)

What exhaust gives the most power and what one gives the best sound? AND, is there anywhere they have sound clips of exhausts on LT1's?

Thanks

Power is pretty much going to be the same all around. You want to shop based on sound mostly and thats a matter of preference.

I put on Magnaflows and get complements ALL the time on how great they sound. I dont have a clip but you can listen to a C5 on their website and its very similar

Here is a B&B set up. Very deep sound. 3" system.

In that case I am going to go with Corsa. It sounds the best to me. Looks good too. Just out of curiousity, how much of a power gain is to be expected?

To be honest, the OEM exhaust on an LT-1 is pretty good. As far as horsepower increase, not much, but much better sound and looks. You'll not feel any difference in power, again it will sound better. Of course, that's with a pretty much stock engine. One thing some guys don't like about the Corsa is one tip doesn't seem to be functional and the B&B seems to be a touch louder with a touch more resonance. Go to a show and ask for some sounds from the guys that have the two systems.

This is correct. This was discussed several months ago and I actually wrote to the folks at corsa about this. they indicated the the barely open 2nd outlet was all about their ability to have almost no resonance at all in the cabin at crusing speed. This is one of the "advantages" of the Corsa system for long drives.

If I can find their actual response I will post it.

BTW Strick, I really like the way your car looks

Default Mufflers cut off

Who needs mufflers anyway. I had the local shop chop em off and put pipes in their place and weld the tips back on to the ends. I wish they had 3" pipes. All they had was 2.5". Total caost was $60 and it looks great. I no longer have the bulky stock mufflers hanging off the back. I like the sound but for some owners the resonance may be too loud in the interior. It now sounds like a corvette should. But that's all a matter of taste. I'm now thinking of cutting the middle resonator off in exchange for an X pipe. The guy at the shop would not do it though. Something about it affecting emmisions. I'll start another thread for that one. Good luck

Thank you for your kind observation. I wish I could take all the credit, but the General is mostly responsible.

Not mine...there isn't any raised lettering on mine...just smooth & polished.

When did they start that trend on them?

I vaguely remember back during the GP that one member posted about a 7 HP gain for the Corsa, but I do not remember all the details, but I think he did have before and after dyno run data.
Mine just sound great - an excellent choice for a ragtop - quiet enough at idle and under low acceleration (but better than stock) and loud under Corvette style 0-speed limit acceleration.

Obviously a subjective matter but I can tell you that Strick's B&Bs do sound sweet! I don't know that I've ever heard the Magnaflows but there are many on here that have them and rave about them. I have no doubt there are nice. The Corsas are cool and the only complaint I've ever heard about them was from those who just wanted to make a lot more noise! I've never cared for the sound of the standard Flowmaster mufflers but they make a system for the C4 called the Force II that sounds great! I once followed a guy in a '94 home just to find out what kind of exhaust he had and that was what they were. I like my Power Effects system and when I added an H pipe into the system, they sounded even better, smoother. The quick adjustability of the mufflers is a cool gimmick. On the quietest setting (there are 6) resonance is minimal and limited to a small RPM range. Set wide open, they get everyone's attention!

Cruise-In I Veteran

Default magnaflows

My 89 has flowmaster 40's on it when I bought it and they sound good but the cabin resonance is like a dang truck. might as well go with glass packs since these flows are way over priced for quality to me.
I called manufacture and they said I need go to 50 series for less resonance. I wouldn't buy flows if they were 1/2 price.

My Magnaflows sounds great to me. I have the Hooker 2149s, Random Tech cat, and the Magnaflow catback. They sound very muscle-car like. I bet they will sound a whole lot better when I do heads, cam and intake this winter.

Actually...OEM LT1 Mufflers are pretty free flowing mufflers. Gut your cats, and you will be amazed at the sound difference.

I have Hooker LT headers and a full flowmaster exhaust with no cats. Very loud, lots of resonance!
