Default LT1 balancer spun itself off the crank

Hub cracked, spun, backed the bolt out and walked itself right off the crank. Damn I have some bad luck

You can do what I did and get a keyed hub and that should never happen again. I know More sells them and i think Thunder may as well just be sure to get the corvette hub as the impalla hub is diferent.

Whew! I looked at some when I built the last block but was limited on funds. I think this time I'll go that route.

Apologies if these are silly questions:

1. If you have a keyless hub, how will a hub with a keyway make any difference (since by definition and IMO the crank is not keyed with a keyless hub)
2. What's the history of this? I have a 92 LT1 with a '383 and the crank is keyed, and I have a keyed hub which looks original.

Thanks!

The slot for the key is in the crank on a stock LT1, even though the balancer hub is not slotted.

A slotted hub/balancer is aftermarket.

If you're using the stock crank you'll need to pull the crank timing chain gear off, remove the stock key and put in a full key. The stock crank has a notched key installed, so your new keyed hub isn't going to engage with anything....
