Default QA1 Coilovers

I was thinking about putting coilovers on my 94 and had a few questions.

What size springs should I use front and back, and does anyone have a part number for them? I looked on Summit and it doesnt show any coilovers foy my year Vette?

I got the numbers for mine off of Mo's site... You CAN turn the muzak off, but it does jam... I'm replacing my Competition Engineering 3-ways with coilovers, at least in the rear...

I have the same setup on my 95.
It uses 1 7/8" x 10 small diameter Coil Over
Springs. I purchase mine through AFCO Racing Products
www.AFCOracing.com they are about $55 each and come in rates
from 50 to 550 lbs/inch.

Photo's on Mo's excellent web site pretty much sum it up. The
shock mounts on the newer series C4's are plenty strong. I agree
the canterlevered rear shock mount looks worrysome but I can
vouch it's plenty strong. I have mine going on 8 years with literally
1000's of track miles & countless street miles, real world every day use.

I think you can be slightly more agressive with spring rates.
I use 425 front and 325 rear with moderate 26 mm front & rear
anti-roll bar. I keep the shock settings low one click from from
full soft. The car is comfortable to drive and just has very slight
amount of understeer.

The Guildstrand rear toe rod kit is an excellent mod that will
complement converting to coil overs. If you have the FE1
soft factory suspension the rear busings are too soft. There is
not much clearance between the rear spring and the half shafts.
There is enough so long as your trailing arm busings are not shot.
Most people put solid busings. I woud consider that if your busings are old or better yet rear sperical trailing arms from Guildstrand but that's getting into $.

The only down side to this kit is the 1 7/8's diamater springs are typically a sprint car application so you don't find them used like you find 2.5 or 2 5/8 diamater springs. My kit was origionally put together
by Carrera before they were purchased by QA1 but they still make
the same shock and their tech support guys are great.

Dan please feel free to contact me if i can answer any questions for you... The lower rear shock was temporary ( everyone knows that story) but I still haven't changed it and they have held strong for over 3 years... and over 250 runs... and about 30,000 miles

In regards to the spring rates, I agree you can definately go more aggresive I had 500's in the front and 400's in the rear. it actually handled better than my 350's in the front ( which is bare minimum) and the 200's in the rear that I am currently running.

oops correction to above, C4 coil over diamater is 2 1/4 inches. !!!
Ebiach & Hypco provide a good selection of rates. Free length can
do down to 7 inches and still provide 4" suspension travel which
are what the shocks are rated at. Pegasisracing.com is a good
source for 2 1/4 springs (AFCO sells mostly 2.5 to 2 5/8th).

I upped my fronts from 425 to 500 and I am very pleased with the result. I 'm using 500/350 which is very close to the Z06 option offered in 1995. If you live in the frost belt, 400-425/250-300 would be
better suited for rougher road conditions. QA1 engineers recomended
#5 valving.
