That tube carries air from the AIR pump to the cat to help the cat process emissions. It shouldn't affect your tune one way or the other.

RACE ON!!!

it is only pumped air when the engine is cold - to heat it up faster.

So does removing it make it noisier? (noise coming from the cat) Did you pinch the outlet from the cat? What about the other end, how did you plug that?
I would love to get rid of that piece running from the cat to the engine compartment. It ratles, and gets in the way when ever I have the exhaust off to do anything. And on my 86, I have to take the exhaust off anytime I do anything exept maybe change the oil in the headlight

Air is diverted to the Cat once it's warmed up, so you will get noise (much like an exhaust leak) unless you eliminate the pump or hook up the hose. There is also a check valve on the Cat line. This prevents exhaust from flowing back towards the pump. If you eliminate the line, you need to plug the Cat fitting.

You can reconnect it by cutting the flares off the pipes and using a 1/2 inch tubing compression union. Local hardware store item. Spare the air!

i just read in a haynes manual that the exhaust gas recirculation system cools down combustion chamber tempatures ,and if you disconnect the hose from the cat it is possible that the engine could idle differently. right now i do not have my hose on and i am flashing a code 32. my engine is also idleing a little rough even though i have a custom cam i dont think it is the cam. now the question is where does the other end of the hose go? i cannot find the other end because i wasnt the one to take it off. anyone experience this? any help or suggestions would be appreatiated

I pulled the center cat off my 86 and left the air pump tude hanging out in the engine compartment. Has not effected idle, running tune nor WOT performance.
