Default L98, nitrous, go big or go home...

I am planning on spraying a 200 shot on my stock 91 L98 this week-end. I'm using a Jacobs N20 Master Mind to progressivley bring on the dope. What do you guys think my chances of surviving dyno day are?

200 shot Hmm it may go once or twice without any damage but after that I wouldn't push my luck. I had a guy a couple weeks ago purchase a nitrous system from me. I installed it, he loved it, and went through a 10lb bottle every day for the two weeks he had it. Just before the engine blew its guts out, he came to me and had the car dyno'd. He didn't think that 75hp was a good enough gain for what he spent. So he purchased some larger jets, mind you these were larger than what NOS recommended. That very next day his engine let go. I burned up 16 bottles of nitrous!! I could have purchased a filling station and this guy would have nearly paid for it with all the nitrous he purchased!

I don't see why she won't take it. I used a 150 shot on my 91 for several years. I did have a Mastermind, but I turned the full on rpm all the way down and my start rpm at 2800. So at 2800 it came full on. I blew a head gasket on the dyno because my start rpm got turned down my accident. Don't make the same mistake I did. Good luck!!!

Hey Big City, I don't believe that the hyperpathetics were put in until 92. I think the 91 stockers were cast. I could be wrong though...

Dyno day got postponed again, grrr. I'll be sure to video it when I do it, looks like this Saturday (the 23rd I think) is going to be the day.

As long as the stock fuel system is able to supply enough fuel to keep it at 11:1 or so I'll go ahead and take it to 200. Wish me luck.

i'm curious also. i ran a 90-100 shot on my stock 86 after first installing the nitrous, but during last summer i leaped to 150 and have been running that ever since. never have had any problems. i'll be waiting to see what happens, but i by no means would take the chance. i just rebuilt my motor a couple years ago

I have run a 150 shot 1.60 60' 11 .73 at 115 mph.
200 shot on a dyno I have never seen any attempt on that one .
The owner must be new to nitrous or hates his dyno.

Damn man, seems like I am the only one who thinks it'll hold together, lol. With the progresive controller it's only going to see 200 HP worth of N20 for a split second right at 5k. And if it starts to lean out, it won't even see that much.

I can't believe you guys don't think the stock bottom end will handle 450 RWHP. I thought for sure that would be no sweat. What does the engine care if I making 450 RWHP NA, FI, or N20? The N20 hit will be gradual, so I think it'll work.

Atleast that's what I am telling myself so I can sleep at night, lol.

I never said yay or nay. I'm personally hoping she holds so I'm pulling for ya. If it holds I'll feel alot more at ease with my 125 shot.

So when's this going down anyway? Oh yeah, the 23rd. Good luck. Let us know.

If the pistons will take it I think it will stay together. The bottom end is fine, I made 620hp. on the dyno with stock crank and rods. Take some video just in case though.

Anyone remember hot rod mag a couple mths ago ?
They shot 450 at a junk yard 350 and only broke 2 pistons and rings.
They had some great pictures.
Nice cloud over the engine, then bang.
The engine took a 300 shot with no problem.
