Default Cam for an L98

I have an 90 A4 and want alittle more go than what I have now. I have on order a set of tpis Lt headers but I also want to get a better cam. I am trying to get opinions on the type and size of a good cam. I know I also will need to get better valve springs so I am thinking lt4 springs. Will these work for my set up?

BTW the car already has 1.6.1 rr and true deul exhaust.

Reportedly the stock #113 heads will flow to around 350chp and you can get there with the stock cam, so you may not get the full advantage of a cam change till you port the heads.

Anyway, the TPIS ZZ9 is a great cam for your car; maybe the LPE 219 would be good with worked heads.

Do you have the stock intake?

ZZ9 or Accel/LPE 211 would probably work best with the stock intake setup.

You would want to wait until after you pick the cam, to pick the springs. You want a matched combination.

If I can acheive 350 with stock cam what other mod can I do without doing an cam change. Maybe SR intake and if I went this direction how much would this cost.

350 is what the heads will support, unported. That doesnt mean the TPI intake you have can get you to 350.

To even get over 300, you'd have to switch the intake manifold to the Accel/TPiS base ($400 new) and then AS&M runners and ported plenum.

To get 350 you'd be better off just buying the whole SR, you can find the whole thing for $700-800ish on ebay.

I love my ZZ9 cam. I bought the matching springs from TPIS and used those. I also have the long tube tpis headers, ramdom tech cat and borlas. The kids come out of the woodwork every time I pull in somewhere. It sounds mean and runs great for an L98

How hard is it to install a new cam? Do you have to pull the motor? What all do you have to do?

What mods do you now have; do you have 2.59 gears??

To install a cam with eninge in the car it's necessary to remove all the front components and tilt the engine a little so the cam will clea the cross-member.
