Who sells blank PROMS?
I need to get a hold of a blank PROM to send to Jesse so I don't have to send mine out. Does anybody have, or know where I can get a PROM. It needs to fit an '86 ECM. Thanks
Call http://www.superchevyperformance.com/ tell them you're a corvetteforum.com member, should be about $50.....Give them the year, final drive ratio, and last 8 digits of your VIN.

The above is for the memcal, if you want just the eprom, go to futurlec.com. You want a 27c128, but a 27c256 will also work just fine. Even better, is the 29c256- which is electronically eraseable. The first two are probably $2-3 each, and the 29c256 is around $4-5 I think. Shipping from this company is slow though.
Futurlec has the 27x256's for $1.80, and the 29C256's for $4.50 each

Thanks guys. I've got another question. When Jesse did my chip the first time, I sent the Mem-cal. How difficult is it to install the reprogrammed chip in the Mem-cal> Would a Mem-cal out of an F-Body work, since it's going to be reprogrammed anyway? I figure those should be easy to find in any salvage yard.
The memcal from an F-body will work as long as its from an 86-89 with a V-8 and a TPI. But, the 86-88 use a cold start injector, and the 89 doesnt- meaning that the 89 memcal (with the factory 89 prom) will overly enrich the engine when starting cold, unless you unplug the ninth injector (easy to do). When you burn the chip (or have it burned) for your 86 with a cold start injector- it will then work just fine in the 89 memcal, with your ninth injector plugged back in.
The best way is to buy the Moates adapter with a ZIF socket, and use a new eprom, while keeping your stock memcal unaltered. Or, buy a zif and carefully solder it to a junkyard memcal, and get a new eprom.
Folks you could also try a company called Digi-key www.digikey.com it looks like they run about 6.75 ea. for the 28 pin dips. They have PLCC's too.
