My brother in law purchased a 95 this weekend and I tried to hook my scanner up to it and the plug in was different than my 91s. I thought something was fishey because it has the OBD2 plug in but had only one o2 sensor per side.

Are the chips in 95s replaceable or do you have to reflash the ECM?

flashable, very easy with TunerCat. I do it on my 94.

You might be able to use your cable, just make a patch for the new data pins. Everything is the same except the connector.

I was told that the dealer was the only one who could check my "SYS" codes on my OBD-II Vette. I went to the dealer and he told me how to ground the connector to read the codes on the dash. Go figure.

According to GM, some of the last 1995s to be manufactured had OBD-II installed. They are rare, but they do exist.

The codes you're checking are CCM codes and they do in fact relate to the "SYS" you'll see flash on the IP display if there is a code stored.

The advice you received was in reference to PCM codes (i.e. the Service Engine Soon light). To check PCM codes (note the "P" for powertrain) you must use a scanner (i.e. a Tech 2 or equivalent) or scan software loaded on a laptop (i.e. AutoTap or equivalent) on a '96. OBD II diagnostic codes are 5 characters long (Pxxxx) and can't be displayed on the 3 character '96 speedometer display.

Roger that 96GS. When I was trying to figure out how to check for codes relating to the "SYS" light...I was told to go to the dealer for this due to my car being OBD-II. My mechanic used his scan tool to get the codes for my "Service Engine Soon" light but he, along with the guy at the autoparts store did not know about the "SYS" light. '95 LT1's have OBDII hardward running OBDI software.

I guess I must be little slow and dense - I have a 95 LT1 with an OBD2 connection - what can I do to read codes - I tried to plug in a OBD2 scanner and it would not recognize it was attached. The only reason I was trying to read codes was that my "SERVICE RIDE CONTROL" light came on -

Any help on these issues?

Because as mentioned above , '95 has OBD1 software even though a ODBII plug is fitted

Thanks for information - I read it and it seemed like it could be helpful - but it the information given says it (the code reading process) only works up to a 1993. Will it work on a 1995?

when inserting paper clip into obd connector does the paper clip stay in when doing the code reading - or is it a touch (shorting out) type action?

I know it is a basic question but I just want to make sure before I start plugging in paper clips into sockets.

take a small type paperclip, and if you know wich slot you have to use, see to it that it stays in there, no touch.
I prefer a small flat/male wire connector (2) with a piece of wire (5 inch) between em.
IMO paperclips can ruin the female connector in the ALDL.

The only thing you´re doing is closing the path for the diagnostic part of the PCM, some stuff though can only be shown with a scanner.

I have an autoXray 6000, but I can´t remember if it came with a GM OBDII cable.
That one should be able to read both OBDI and II.
