My 1989 convertible that I rarely drive needed a smog check (test only station) so I dropped it off. Apparently when then the engine warmed up it flagged a code, but the tech ran it anyway L. I am now a gross polluter.
When my '86 showed the O2 sensor code and replacing the sensor did not fix it, I traced the wiring down and could not find anything wrong so I swapped in another ecm and the problem was solved.
More than likely, if you replaced the ecm and everything is working, then you should not have too much to worry about. I don't have my service manual in front of me, but there are several relays and a solenoid or two controlled by the ecm. They are concerned that a failed relay caused the original ecm to die but since your's was the input for the O2 sensor, I would probably leave well enough alone. Drive it around and make sure you are getting o2 sensor activity and have it re-smogged.
Re: gross polluter in california (Vett-eight-nine)
Always ask for a "pre-test"! If you were closer, I'd say bring it by...I have an anylyzer with gas bench...oh well, a little too much snow on the ground now too...
