Hey guys, I'm not new to computers or cars, but I'd like to get into to tuning. I know I'll need a laptop with cables to connect to the ECM, and some editing, burning, and data recovery software. Maybe you guys could suggest some programs that work well. I've heard of LT1 Edit, Tunercat, TunerPro. What would be good for my level? What do I need to burn chips? Also what else do I need or need to know about messing with the tables on the PROMs?
Also... most importantly the car is in the signature. Its runs perfect now with the piggyback in there, but the urge to program myself has been growing for quite a while. :reddevil
Re: Newbie Help - What else will I need to tune?! (WickedC4)
First read up on the FAQ's. Knowledge is power, (and HP). I use Diacom and Data Master for data logging. I have a pocket programmer 2 to burn with and I use Atmel 29C256 chips that do not need a UV eraser. You clear the prom in the programmer. TunerCat has worked great for me and I will continue to use it as a program editor. With TunerCat you need to get the correct defintion file for your car. Start slow, programming fan turn on values and such, and work your way up to the VE tables. Get the goods and you will surely have more questions.
