Default F-body program for Vette?

Guys,

Been needing to get the car programmed with the new setup. A buddy of mine has all the stuff to program, and a few files already done that he uses for his car. He has a '95 F-body. Is there anything dramatically different that would keep me from being up to use one of his files?

Forgot to add. We programmed one of his files to the car today and afterwards the car would start, run for about 2-3 seconds, then die and "SYS" would flash next to the speedometer. Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

What year is your car and what ECM are you using.

1994, 6spd. Past that, how do I tell which ECM I have?

Ok,....just got done messing with it again a few mins ago. Here's the rundown.

At the end of messing with it yesturday, we were finally able to get my stock bin programmed back to the PCM. Ok, so this morning I go out there, read the PCM fine just to make sure all is good. Then I decided to just try to make a few changes to my stock bin, so I made a copy of it, changed the idle speed, and fan turn on temps just to see then tried to program it back to the PCM. I'm using WinFlash for what it's worth. Ok, so it says erasing PCM memory, goes through that fine, then when it starts to try to program, it sits there for a min, then pops up and says "Incorrect Response from PCM". The car will start, and run. It's idling at about 1500, and the Service ASR light, and check engine light are on. Also, every few mins "SYS" will flash next to the speedo. So as it stands right now, I can't read or program without getting the Incorrect Response error.

Any ideas or is my car just posessed?

What version TunerCat are you using? You should be using version 2.0 now. Version 1.97 had some problems and could mess up the EE definition and cause a problem. Version 2.0 has a built in flash utility which works much better than the winflash utility. Download the latest version of TC and open up your calibration and save it again. Then direct from the program you can flash your PCM, just click on "tools" and then "program PCM"

If you load a 95 F body file into your PCM, you will loose communications to the CCM. A F body calibration does not have any code for CCM communications. Now you can copy table entries from a F body to a Y body calibration without any problems. Just don't load a F body calibration into a Y body PCM.

For your problem try disconnecting the battery for about 15 minutes, that may reset the PCM. Most of the time if you loose communications to your PCM you will corrupt the flash memory chips. and 99% of the time the engine won't even start. The only way to fix this is to get someone to disassemble the PCM, remove the flash chips and then reflash the chips with a known good files. There are 2 chips in your PCM, known as the "E" and "T" chips. Each contains about 1/2 the code which it compiles and reads as machine code. If they are corrupted I can fix this for you but I would need your PCM sent to me.

K, just checked my versions.

WinFlash v2.11
Tuner Cat v2.00
PCM_EE version U
PCM_EEB version C

I've been strictly using WinFlash to do the reading/programming, and TunerCat to do the editing. I'll probably go back out there in a bit and disconnect the battery for a while, then hook it back up and try doing it all with the reader/programmer built in to TunerCat as you recommended.

Thanks.

You should contact Tunercat and get your EE and EEB defintions updated. The ones you have are outdated, my EE is version AX and my EEB is version AB. TunerCat will email you new definitions as soon as you can email him. His email is: TC@tunercat.com

Thanks.

One thing to beware of when using an f-body program is that if you have Automatic A/C ... it will not work. ;)

I've moved past trying to use a F-body program. Now I'm just trying to get my stock bin back on there. :(

I've dealt with lots of programming problems. If you're getting "incorrect responce from PCM" , then your ALDL module or cable is bad. My problem was the cable going from the ALDL module to the car. Bad grounding probably. Another possible problem is that your computer is not able to sustain enough volts for the ALDL operation. I spent hours on the phone with Andrew from AKMcables and I ended up just buying a new module and cabling, and it fixed the problem. Also, getting a new laptop did as well... my old one was sending bad data through the serial port!

Tjwong was correct when he said"If you load a 95 F body file into your PCM, you will loose communications to the CCM. A F body calibration does not have any code for CCM communications...". I experienced this exact same situation when I flashed a F-body file into my '94 vette. The only way I was able to correct it was to take it to a GM dealer and have them flash an original vette program back into your PCM-I believe they'll use a tech 2 scantool to do this. All was fine with mine after that was done-lesson learned for me since then.

If you need a stock BIN for your car. Let me know, I will need your VIN to give you a fresh GM calibration.
