Re: RS-232 port replicator from Pc card for laptop? (clemsonvette)
The "best buy" version seems like the one I use. I got one off the net and it didnt work for WinALDL, then I got one from Radio Shack. The Shack even said if it didnt work I could bring it right back. It works great on my Compaq laptop running windows XP. It was like $30+

Wow! One would think these things would be a little more universal. I have an HP laptop without the serial port running XP. I intend to check into the CompUSA thing-a-ma-hickie tomorrow and see if it 'computes'. I appreciate all replies and would be interested in any others out there, also.

i also use a USB -> serial adapter. the included drivers didn't work, however. i had to download the latest drivers for my adapter before LT1_Edit would find the COM port.
but, it works great. this is windows ME. the adapter was cheap, less than $20.

Update: I used the adapter to flash a couple of programs to the vette and it works like a charm! It is the serial port from card adapter made by socket.com. I purchased it from compUSA for $130. It has the capabality of 900 Kps. I know not many items are going to transfer at that speed, but some might need it.
