Moates Ostrich 2.0 and 1987 Vette?
I'm going to have my new engine dyno tuned but no one overhere (DK, Europe) knows the old GM systems.
I know a guy who dyno tunes everything from custom made twinturbo LSx setups to BMW's with compressor's.
He will dyno tune my new engine if I can supply the necessary software and hardware and setup the equipment. I have worked with computers/programming in the past so I don't think this will be a problem.
I'm planning to buy this emulator
http://www.moates.net/ostrich-20-the....html?cPath=95
Will it allow me to 'only' upload a new bin file on the fly while the engine is running or will it be possible to alter parametres in the uploaded file directly while the engine is running?
Or its just like normal programmering, where the data is changed on the PC, then compiled to a binary file and then uploaded to the emulator?
Which tuning software do people here prefer to use with the Ostrich?

I was under the impression that you could do all tuning on the fly with the Ostrich. Then when you are done tuning you can burn your final .bin, remove the Ostrich and put the chip in. I'm curious as well, guess we'll wait and see what others have to say.

You can tune on the fly (emulation) with the Ostrich 2. I use TunerPro for editing and emulating but I use TTDatamaster for logging (you can log in TunerPro if you want).
In my 86 using $6E, I leave the Ostrich 2 hooked up all the time. I haven't burned a chip in two years. I change the tune and upload when I'm finished or if emulating you have to save the changes and then upload to keep those changes.

hi,i'm from italy,i own an Ostrich too,it's a good device that works with tunerpro rt that is free from Mark Masur site.As told, the Ostrich let you upload tune on the fly in emulation,it also makes your old 165 ecm a flashable unit ,since living it connected permanently to your ecm,you simply have to upload new edited bin.then you can modify it while you'r driving the car and upload this new edited bin...you don't need to burn old eprom ,simply leave it connected...

Just leave the USB cable accessible under the dash and connect the laptop when required

Copied from a post I did yesterday so I don't have to retype
Excuse repeating of what has already been said
You need a ALDL cable to connect to your laptop
http://www.aldlcable.com/
Popular tuning software is TunerPro RT
http://www.tunerpro.net/
also Tuner Cat
You need a adapter to replace the stock memcal ( chip )
http://www.moates.net/g3-bank-switch...pter-p-33.html
Then you need software to datalog ( uses the same ALDL cable as for tuning ) so you can see what is going on so you can make adjustments
TunerPro software does datalogging as well as tuning
but Datamaster is more user friendly
