Default Datamaster problem w/92

I cannot get Datanaster to work w/my 92. I am hooking up my PC via a USB cable, it worked once out of 14 tries for about 2-3 minutes and will not connect again.
I am using COM4 and have searched here, but cannot find info about timing and such, saw were people w/92-93 have problems but I have tried what works for others.
I have a newer PC running XP and I got my cable from aldlcable.com and have loaded the driver twice, 2nd time after removing the old driver and w/no luck.

Anybody w/92-93 use Datamaster w/USB cable and get it to work?

And did you have to change any varibles on your PC or Datamaster?

I had the same problem when I first started using Datamaster. A couple things that helped were:

-Using the "check coms" option when in record mode.
-Letting the Laptop completely boot up before going into record mode.
-using "Disable CCM handshake"
-Double check each time that the "vehicle type" is correct
-when in record mode, `File' ~ `Open' and create a datalog file for that session before attempting to record.

Hope this helps

Prior to buying my cable, I had read several reviews describing problems with USB cables. I opted for the serial version and have never had a problem at all.

I have a 95. No major problems with my USB cable or Datamaster. Every now and then I will have to switch com ports but it works correctly right after doing so. Is there a switch on your cable?

No switch on mine, but I have ODB I (12-pin). I believe you have the ODB II (16-pin) connector which would obviously be different.

From moates website...

ALDU1 and CABL1 XtremeALDL and NewCABL1 Combo
This is for any pre-1995 (OBD1) GM vehicle. Everything except the 1995 LT1. You should be able to datalog all of them, and reflash the 94 LT1 as well. Comes with XtremeALDL and NewCABL1 (RJ45/Moates-specific new style). There's a switch on the side which allows you to select 10k (across pins A&B of ALDL) or 'Open' mode. You use the 10k mode for older TBI and TPI setups, and the 'Open' for newer Speed density and LT1 stuff. This item can be used with TunerPro RT, TTS Datamaster, TunerCat reflash for LT1, WinALDL, and EFI Live V4(OBD1).

I am using 'Open' mode, I think it has to do w/timing on the SD LT1's. But I have researched and cannot seem to find anybody who has my problem and solved it.
I am at 19 on the free uses and am not going to buy if I cannot get it to connect.

If you do a system restore to a date prior to using up the free trials, they start over at that point. Like go back to the last time it actually worked.
