I'm trying to get into tuning my car (1990 vette). It's quite modified. 421 stroker, Mini-ram, Dart pro1 heads, zzx cam, headers, 3000 stall, 3.73's ect.
While I have been doing research, I am getting advise to get a wide band o2 sensor. No problem.....but what part. I don't know which one fit a GM harness, or for my year. Or for that matter if it will be compatible with my obd1 computer.
I've searched the forum, and can't seem to find out much about it.
I have an Innovate LC-2 and am happy with it for my purposes. If you have some kind of data collection box, this will provide wideband data to it as well as feed the car's stock computer through a separate wire.
Innovate's LM-2 performs the same function but has a display and data collection system built-in.
Basically, with these or similar systems, you unplug and unscrew the car's stock oxygen sensor and replace it with the wideband sensor. If the wideband system has a narrowband output, you can get a connector that plugs into the cars stock oxygen sensor harness and feed the stock computer the narrowband data it's expecting (optional, since it will run open loop regardless on full-throttle pulls). Then you either log or display the wideband data and tune to your heart's content.
I recently purchased the Innovate LM2, as it was compatible with the management systems I commonly tune. It's a nice unit though, backlit readout, programmable as usual, and good quality. The sensors are known to burn up easily though, so you have to be cautious when using them. Luckily they are cheap to replace though.
