Change Dist cap/rotor/coil by hepertech, plug wires, plugs. And now i cant set timing b/c i cant see timing numbers, I disconnected EST wire, connect rpm pickup on #1 plug wire, i cant see any numbers even if i move dist a little by little.
I cleaned the balancer too, still cant see numbers
Double check to be SURE that you are picking up the impulse from plug wire #1. If you are on another wire, you will not see anything even though the light is flashing.
Will check tomorrow as i worked today and way too tired. Thanks again for the suggestions. I already bought 2 diff color pens and will use diff timing light. sami

as this one is very easy to miss. I usually mark #1 wire distributor nipple with a dap of white paint for ease of identity.
Thanks RRT, i saw that thread when he first started, thats similer to my problem, again today i marked the hash line with choc piece and still no luck could not see numbers, damn i could not see even that big line.
If u disconnect EST wire and i assume engine warmed up how much rpm at idle u guys r getting (with min idle adjustment). ?
Sami: does your timing light have a little adjustable dial on it? If so, are you setting the dial to "0" before seeking the engine timing? You may be advancing the timing light (and not the engine) with this little dial. With the EST wire disconnected, the RPM should be the normal idle RPM.
I usually had trouble finding the marks as well. I marked Zero with whiteout so it was readily visible and just used a dial back light for my adjustments, setting the light to my target advance and then adjusting the dizzy until the white mark was back at zero. It's a lot easier to just have one mark to find.

sam, yes i do have little adjustable dial on it, no i did not set dial to "0" before seeking engine timing. yep iam advancing dial to see marks. With EST disconnected rpm is around 500-600 rpm. Iam gonna try again gotta figure out before nov, 18th as thats a track day.

Good advice. My light does not have the dial back knob. Always check to be sure it is on zero.
Sami: Your car is running well (if the timing was off as you suggest, the car would run like crap) and you cannot see the "line" on the vibration damper. Turn the little knob counter clockwise to "0" and you may be surprised to "see the light" :Let us know what you find out on this. Regards
keep moving you timing light pick up to a different cable until you see the mark. if the pick-up ends up to cable other than #1 spark plug cable, you might have a spun harmonic balancer.

Actually i able to see the line on balancer, and set it to 2 inches down that line, shut off the car 2 inches down the line its 6*, and while i set this w/EST disconected, rpm was 590 rpm. Car running good but gas mileage went down to 18.X from used to be 22.x on normal city/hwy driving. I will recheck again on nov, 18th track day. Thanks for tips so far.
