Default Doug Nash 4+3 Transmission Question

I would love to be able to disable the automatic feature only - that is, I'd love it if it only kicked in when I wanted it to without the need for constant pushing of the activation button. Is that possible?

Yes it is possible to disable the od function by default. I've done this myself in my 88 using a 32B mask.

It can be done as simply as a single bit change in the chip in the initialization of the transmission mode word.

86 is a 32 mask. I don't know if this is supported in the common TunerPro *.xdf or TunerCat definition files currently available for the 32 mask, but I know how to do it.

I'll just have to dig through a 32 mask file for the correct address to modify. No big deal.

I can update a TunerPro *.xdf file for the 32 mask that will include this change if you want.

Everything you said makes absolutely no sense to me - and I can build a PC with a blindfold on. I do want this feature disabled until I push the OD button. I gather you would program a chip for me? What will I owe you?

Sorry for getting too technical in my initial response.

The eprom or chip contains a *.bin file that contains the ecm's programming. 86 bins are a 32 mask, 87-88 are 32B, 89 is 6E etc. You will see these terms thrown about. The mask determines which addresses to edit with the various editing tools available.

To tune a chip, you need the bin file (read from your eprom), editing software, and an appropriate definition or xdf file for the specific mask.

I've edited a basic 32 mask TunerPro xdf file, to include the 4+3 parameters and I also added the default enable/disable option.

If you have access to an eprom programmer and uv eraser, I could send you a copy of the updated *.xdf and you could do it yourself with a downloaded demo copy of TunerPro or TunerProRT.

Where are you located? Perhaps there is a local tuner willing to help.

If you want to send me your memcal, I could make the changes for you and send it back. This probably takes a week turn around time by mail.

I have no commercial interest in this matter, but I could do it for you easily enough.

Ah...sounds similar to updating a BIOS on a PC. Go ahead and send me the file, I'll hold onto it until I find a local tuner shop that can do it for me. Thanks for all the information. Email: C4Driver@MotorCarriageService.com

Email sent with the xdf, a bin file and an eprom disassembly for 32 mask.

Let me know if you have any questions, I can probably help.

I took the easier way out and hardwired my 4+3 trans. The article was here on CF:

You basically jumper the two wires into the ECM that let the ECM determine whether the OD can be on or not. After that it will engage when the switch is flipped no matter what. I think you lose kickdown, but I never liked it anyway.
