I have an 88 L98. Two of the biggest areas that need improvement are the intake (mini ram upgrade) and the outdated ECM.
Is it worth using an aftermarket ECM to control the engine? I'd still need to keep the orginal ECM to run the digi dash, abs, ac, etc, but an aftermarket ECM would provide much better control using a single integrated system.
Idea is to build a streetable, reliable, 600hp forced induction 8.5:1 compression engine: water injection, sequential fuel injection, boost driven retard, fuel pressure, O2 sensors, MAF, etc. Current gen ecm's (e.g. F.A.S.T.) would allow control/input of these functions from one central processor.
It would probably be easier to sell the L98 and start with a newer gen vette, but I like my old C4.
