Default Anyone burn custom proms?

I'm looking for a custom prom.

I purchased a HyperTech ThermoMaster Chip but they have it engaging lock-up way to early during normal driving. I'd like to aquire a chip with the performance values of the HyperTech chip but with a delayed lock-up.

I had a custom prom burned with my GTA Trans Am back in the late 80's so I'm pretty sure it can still be done now. Right?

Thanks!

I have used Alvin at www.pcmforless.com and I must say I have been very happy with his results. Do a forum search on some of the others mentioned and then decide for yourself who to use. Also www.pcmforless is a supporter of this forum.

Honestly I'm not positive... I have a few areas I'd like to change with the program of the stocker chip...

Most importantly is the coolant fan turn on temp. My stock chip doesn't turn it on until 230. I fixed this by installing a low temp fan switch (180) but I'd also like the ECM acting sooner in case the switch fails.

Stock chip engages Lock-up T/C at 40 mph....I'd like to move this up to 50.

The performance increase I obtained from the HyperTech chip was very good under hard acceleration only. Under normal driving there was no change (which is fine)

I guess to answer your question, I've done some mods already that are probobly confusing the stocker more then anything, not sure, and I want something that is "designed" to work with my setup.

Premium Fuel only

K&N

Ported Plemium

IAT switch relocated to air filter

Throttle body coolant by-passed

all smog components are gone (Diverter valves gone, air tubes removed from manifolds, air pump gutted, cats gone

3 inch engine back exhaust with DynaMax mufflers

fuel pressure raised to 44psi

DUI Coil

8.8 wires

Plug gap increased to .050

Crane CompuCam

All just basic stuff but also stuff the stock chip isn't supposed to see.

I have more things I'm going to be doing but haven't quite decided which way I'm gonna go. That Squires Turbo is looking very appealing for the $$. I'm positive it wont work with the MAF and i'm not sure I'm ready to go to speed density. I put a 58mm BBK throttle body on it a few months back and set a MAF code for to much air flow so the turbo will surely set codes. I also learned the hard way with a Pete Jackson gear drive when I changed the cam. There were so many knock counts that it would bearly run.

It's been trial and error for me and if I had known about this forum months ago I could have saved myself alot of back tracking.....

So you just need the lock up to come on later I take it? The money that you could spend buying a chip. You could by a programmer and software and taylor the thing yourself. That is a very easy thing to do if you take a few hours to learn the thing..There are alot guys out here that would give you a hand on it. That way down the road you want the fans to come on at a certain time.. You have it all there..

All you need is at moates.net. For the money I spent there I not only did all of the above, but more importantly changed the %TPS to lock and unlock the TC, so I don't get the BOG and Shudder at low RPM light accelleration. Much improved around town driving, not to mention tweaking of fuel and timing map to get rid of knock retard in my aggressive factory timing AL headed TPI.

Glad to help if you decide to go that route.

I am open to learning more about tuning it myself.
Who do you recommend I ask for assistance in learning it?

Thanks,

Once you do your homework at the following links, you can ask for help right here or on the Thirdgen.org forum. Before you start, most DIY tuners recommend thorough reading of these archives:

http://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/promintro.shtml

The first few links here:

http://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/foru...php?forumid=16

And various links from here:

http://www.diy-efi.org/

There are more too just do a google search and read, read, read.

Enjoy!

Jesse - You aren't alone here. I just climbed the same hill you are looking at. And it's easy! Pocket programmer, Tunercat and a tube of new 2732 chips - and I'm in business.

All I really wanted to do was eliminate the MAF code that was setting after moving up to a 52mm throttle body. That and fiddle with TCC and coolant fan settings. No problem - done.

BTW - the latest mask file for the '85 ($1F) from tunercat now includes the MAF code 33 switch, so disabling that particular pain in the posterior is now easy.

Dive in, the water's great

85A4Coupe,
I am in Fot Myers. Probrably about a tad over 2 hours from you. I am thinking of selling my programming equiptment, Some what older. Rommaster II + UV eraser. I even have some chips. Maybe I can help you burn a chip and you may want to purchase the equiptment to fine tune your setup for future modifications.
Sold my 85 so no tuning/burning chips anymore.
PM or EMail.

Dennis
