Default Tuning Gains on Stock 94?

Well, as the title suggests, I'd like to know how beneficial custom tuning on a completely stock 94 coupe would be. I finally got to dyno the car the other day and it made some pretty good power (numbers in sig) but it looked to fairly rich during the pulls. Tons of black smoke. Unfortunatly the place didn't use a sniffer so I don't know the A/F ratio. Tunercat software seems pretty resonable compared to LT1 Edit so I might try my on hand at tuning. Do people usely see a decent gain in power on stock engines or am I just wastin time?

Thanks,
Eric

GM did a pretty good job on tuning the LTx engines. I doubt that you will pick up much HP tuning a stock engine.

I would suggest tunercat.

Actually theres quite a bit to be had even in stock vehicles.

Alvin, what do you consider quite a bit? Because I've yet to see anyone post documented gains tuning a stock LT1.

Please don't misunderstand the above statement. I believe that you have made gains on stock engines. I have just never seen them posted.

Typically 14 is very easy to get out of most of them.

You will hardly ever see less than 10rwhp which is a great bang per buck when you consider what a exhaust, intake, etc does.

I had a 93 a while back that was completely stock down to the original plugs.. Anyway, that car picked up 22rwhp and 28ftlbs of torque.

when you consider also that 1 mod can take care of

Fan speeds for cooler thermostats
removing CAGS
Firm shifts
Speedo calibration
Typically 14rwhp

I think its a great bang per buck for $99-$150

As far as my horsepower, how does it compare to other cars you have dyno'd and or tuned? I'm pretty sure it's in the ballpark but I'm curious.

I also had not ever heard that tuning would give much on a stock car.

Good to know!

Well, your dynot numbers seem pretty much the same to mine. I got 268.3rwhp and 298.6rwtq I did get an afr readout from the runs and it was hovering around 13.0 until then it started to richen? to 12.5 near the end of the run. What would be a good target afr?

I also have muffler elims as well as test pipes with k&n filter which is somewhat similar to your setup.

I have several comaprison timeslips from the day of the dyno with the best of that day's runs being a 13.549@103.06 with a 2.064 60ft (Nov of 2004).

Moving on to March I got a best of 13.425@101.07 with a 1.908 60ft. At this time I had changed to a 3000rpm stall Vigilante converter with no launch technique at all .

Again moving to April I got a best of 13.283@102.28 with a 1.865 60ft, again I am still working on the launch but the gs-d3's don't help with traction....

Latest trip to the strip: 13.247@102.42 with a 1.852 60ft. tires were slipping at launch most of the time so I wasn't able to rev the engine up as much to get as good of a launch as I wanted. May have to look into drag radials...

I have the new Tunercat for OBDII and am loving it right now but I have not been able to get any dyno time to play around with the a/f ratio at wot but I will soon (hopefully).
