Default How do you check codes?

How do you check codes? on imports, you take a paperclip and connect the 2 pins together on the ecu to get the flashing code on the check engine light. how do you do it on the corvette? i have a 1984. thanks.

nevermind evilryu, i figured it out and here is how it works.

under the steering wheel by your right knee is the diagnostic connector, short pin A to pin B (the pins on the far right on top row)

turn key on but dont start engine. You will see check engine light start to flash

flash - flash flash (code 12)
flash - flash flash
flash - flash flash
then you will see your fault codes next
flash flash - flash flash flash flash (code 24)
flash flash - flash flash flash flash
flash flash - flash flash flash flash
when your fault codes are done you will see code 12 three more times.

post up here when you have all your fault codes and someone will help you, or you can buy a haynes or chiltons manual and they will be listed therein.

I don't get how you read code 12 out of 9 flashes, or code 24 out of 18 flashes???

What am I not seeing?

It flashes once then twice = 12. It will do that 3 times then tell you the codes. It will tell the codes 3 times as well, then flash 12 three times to tell you its the end of the codes.

So if it flashes 3 times then 2 times that equals code 32.

Got it. I checked the codes last night and got a 24, vehicle speed sensor. I'll try and get under to check the electrical connection. I can't see a problem in driving it with this code though. I'm not sure what this sensor does. Anyone know?

same code as i got....
your car is before abs so i would guess it can only be the speed sensor on the transmission, ive heard that you can disconnect it, clean it, check the wires for connection and put it back on, then the problem should be cleared.

unless the sensor is bad.

you'll need to get your car up in the air to check it out, and the cost of new sensor if it IS bad will be in the 60 to 70 range most likely.
