A 28" high combo fits in a C4 wheel well, but a 40 series would probably look a little funny.

Too tall, they'd throw your speedo off by changing the effective gear ratio substantially. Check the height and revs per mile specs on the two sizes compared to stock sizes.

A 315-40-17 is less than 27". It's also pretty close to the stock C5 rear tire, which plenty of people run on C4s and they look fine.

I think my 275-40-18 looked better than my current 275-35-18.

Ride quality is another reason to choose 40 over 35.

I like the set on my 86. They're nice dry and wet. Ive had mine for a few thousand miles now and have no complaints about the Sumis (unlike my Kuhmos ).

These are very good daily driver tires. I got 25K hard miles on the last set I owned. They run about an inch or so thinner than most 315 35s, but still still a little widder than than the stock 40s. If you have 11 inch rears you might be disapointed in the width, but if they are going on 91/2" rims they look good. I've paid alot more for less tire. For the money they are hard to beat!

To anyone ordering, the matching 275/17 is out of stock at TireRack for 3-4 weeks, supposedly on a nationwide backorder.

those tires suck. i bought a set of C5 rims and the half bald stock 285's on them hooked up a million times better than that brand 315/35/17 ever thought of hooking up. the only way i got them to really hook is melt the hel out of them. i had the set since they were new and will never buy that brand again and on top of that they wore out really fast too. you get what you pay for with them IMO.

Strange comment...I had consistent 1.89 to 1.92 short times with my 315/35/17 Sumi's...160 treadwear rating too...I would do a quick "dust off" and go...

p.s. the tires I'm heating up in the pic are Nitto DR's...

With Sumi's you can, provided you have 91/2" rims. As I said, they are only slightly larger than most stock size 40's. Of course, I like the wide look out back (on cars, not women) and put 335's on the rear of my '96. Looks good since I have the Grandsport flares, but the Dunlop tires suck big time! I'd take HTRZs over what I have in the performance catagory any day.

I agree. I bought two sets of the HTRZ's years back when Tire Rack ran a similar sale. The first set lasted 20K miles plus before I sold them with the rims. The new set had slightly poorer tread wear, but they sat in my attic for two years before I put them on. Over all, I have very good results with the HTRZs. I'd prefer G-Force T/As, but for the money...
