Are these the same build as the American Racing Equipment rims found on earlier C4s?

These are original light weight BBS aluminum racing wheels. BBS wheels are used on all Formula 1 cars and all Corvette C5R and C6R race cars. All BBS wheels are made in Germany. I paid $3250 for this set of 4 wheels. At the time, ARE wheels were considerably less.

While American Racing Equipment makes very good wheels, they are BBS knock-offs and not the real deal.

Here is a photo of my C4 with these wheels installed.

Yes, BBS wheels or a knock-off of BBS wheels were part of the Greenwood Aero package.

I'm not familiar with BMW's; can you recommend a good forum for them.

Thanks,

I'm not sure on the shipping rates to NJ from Charlotte. Here is the info you will need to get some rates:

My zip code = 28226;
Your zip code = 07701;

Wheels weigh 17.2 lbs each - about 20 lbs each with box & packing;

Box dimensions are approximately 20"x20"x 15";

Total shipment weight is approximately 80 lbs.

There are LTL shippers running up and down the east coast all the time. You can go to auction sites like http://www.uship.com and place an order & truckers will bid on the shipment.

The US Post Office looks like about $25-$30 per wheel for standard postage.

Check it out and let me know what you decide to do.

A friend called and asked me about these last evening. His question is regarding "fit"! You mention '84 - '88 and that "can't be" so. They could only be a "direct fit" for either '84 - '87 or an '88. Do you know the offsets and/or back-spacing? If you only know back-spacing how about measuring the "total wheel width" so I can calculate the offsets for him.

He's quite interested.

???? These BBS wheels are a direct fit on ALL 84-88 Corvettes with 16" wheels. The wheels are 10" wide and require no spacers for 84-88 Corvettes with 16" wheels. In the photos above, the wheels are mounted on Goodyear Gatorbacks 255x50x16" VR tires. With these tires AND these BBS wheels the offset appears to me to be identical to the same tire configuration and 9.5" OEM wheels.

Well - I'll let you do the "confirming" and I'll tell my friend for the time being to "sit tight"!

A 9.5" wheel through '87 MY has an offset of 38mm

An '88 or later 9.5" wheel regardless of diameter had a 56mm offset. The wheels you have can do "one or the other" NOT BOTH. That's FACT !!

Perhaps since you don't understand, what year is the 'vert in your "snapshot"! That will answer the questions for my friend and others.

The Corvette roadster in the photo is a 1986 Indy Pace car with 9.5" Z51 wheels.

Ok, Dave. I did not know that the off-set is different for the MY 88 Corvette with 16" wheels.

To answer your questions I took a couple of photos of one of my four BBS wheels. This photo is a good representative of what all the wheels look like. One photo is with a flash and the other is no-flash. The third photo is of the details inside the hub area. I think that the ET 36 stamping is the off-set dimension. However, I don't know for sure if this information is correct.

I have also posted a few comparative photos of the car with the original 9.5" wheels & OEM Gatorbacks and the car with the 10" BBS wheels, also with OEM Gatorbacks.

Hope this clarifies things a bit.

P.

As you can see the wheels are in very good condition.
