Should i let DAD take the vette?
I am 22 an a college student. I just bought a 1992 white vette. My dad asked tonight to borrow it, he wants to pick his gf up. I just find it a lil weird that my dad is asking me to take my car. Are there any other young people like myself on this board?

Dont do it. Never let some one drive your car. The one time my dad drove a car of mine(I was 19), a Porsche 911, he was stoped at a light and wasn't watching behind him and the car behind him tried to go around to turn at the corner and swiped the left side rear. If he was watching, like I do, he could have moved up 12" and the guy could have gone around. Any way $2500 in damage. The guy said he couldnt see over his own front end because the Porsche sat so low and thought he was clear.
If any thing happens, their is always a weird feeling you will have. If he wants to show off to his girlfriend , tell him to buy his own...

Let him take it... just remind him how low the front is when he is parking and pulling out of places. Other than that there is nothing you could predict... if something is going to happen it prob will happen whether you are driving or he is.

I was allowed to use any of my dad's trucks pretty much at will while I still lived at home. None were really fancy, but still... Dad can take the Vette whenever he wants. I only wish he lived in the area so I could let him.

Everyone is different. Do you or have you borrowed his Car. I would say probaly yes He is your DAD. Not many people will ever drive any car of mine. But there are exceptions.

If he's not a drinker/driver and you feel he is a good driver with good eyes, reflexes, ect..and your insured for all drivers. Then I say let the Man have the keys. Blood is thicker than gasoline. We only live once.

I'm 23 and My dad doesn't like to drive my vette he says it's to hard to get out of (beer belly). My mom on the other hand can't get enough of it. she takes it all the time. this year when she bought her Escalade I almost talked her into getting a C-5 vert. But she wouldn't have anything to drive in the winter. So she'll just keep borrowing Mine. Besides everytime she borrows it she brings it back with a full tank of gas

I'm 20 years old, and pay for my own school, rent, and cars. I'd let my dad drive the vette in a flash anyway. Besides, it's an older C4 - definitely not worth spoiling relations over, even if he did wreck it and for some reason refused to help me get another one/gimme one of his/etc...
Now if your dad is running around with a girlfriend, and has to resort to his son's car for entertainment, I don't know. The story with my dad is very different - and I know he'd never ask. Use your judgement - what's your dad's track record of car ownership? I have friends who'd never let their dads borrow as much as a pencil, simply because the dad never did a damn thing and leeched off the rest of the family for 20 years while bouncing in and out of jail/rehab. Anything they ever owned was destroyed, and having no job or income have no way to repay any damages they might incur. If that's the case, then of course no, don't do it.

Let him use it! I let my Dad take the Vette for a spin when he visited us in June. He's still talking about about how he was rolling down SS11 in Italy in the Vette
That and it was a strange reverse kind of Deja vu when I handed him the keys. At that moment I remembered him handing me the keys to his pristine Lincoln Mark V for the first time (it was sweet, black, dual exhaust and a 460cu )
I'd do it again in a heartbeat!
