Sounds like a Standard LT4 to me. Always have the vin run first before buying a car from someone who wants to meet somewhere! Favorite tactic for people that retag stolen cars!

Unfortunately, this "false" advertising happens quite often with LT4's. The LT4 engine clearly has "Grand Sport" written on it so many unknowledgeable people presume it's a Grand Sport. Not so!
Makes me crazy!

So, from whats been said the differences are pretty much only cosmetic, same motor, trans and brakes(basically).
From what I've seen about the original Grand Sports(from the sixties), thats a different story. One of them is for sale right now, they want about $150,000 for it. I think there are only 5 of them. Check it out at

The origianl GS cars from the 60's are worth more than $150K.....try in the million dollar range.
What makes a GS a GS??
Paint scheme
GS embroidered seats
Special VIN#
Wheels
Limited production

This is what I sent him:
Aaron,
I just saw the "Grand Sport" you are selling on eBay. Fine looking ride, but sad to say, it is not a Grand Sport.
I know... GM made it hard on ya, the owners manual... the engine... but what makes a REAL GS real is the paint. A real GS will be Admiral Blue, with a white stripe, red hashmarks on the left front fender and black "A-Mold" wheels with a polished lip. There will also be a subtle add on fender flare for the rear wheel arches. The rear wheels are 11.5" wide. The interior will be either black or red/black. The seats are embroidered and there is a special VIN.
GM made 1000 of these beasties... all came with the LT4/6spd combo (the LT1 was available with only the automatic, LT4, with a 6spd only). 850 were coupes, 150 were verts. Best guess, about 800 or so still exist.
They are worth a premium over a regular LT4.
I hope this helps clarify the confusion.
That is a nice looking ride you got! If I was in the market, I would jump!
Thanks,
Aaron,

You're right 96lt4. I just spoke with the man in Germany that has the car for sale and he said it is a top quality reproduction.
But 108K Euro for a car like that is not too bad. He said it can be a daily driver but you have to be careful because it can spin the tires in 4th gear at 120 mph. It is also listed on Ebay now under "1966 vettes" with a full desciption in english.
I would much rather have one like this, than the original for one reason, this one you can DRIVE!!! The originals are so "precious", they are only good for museum pieces.

It's funny how people see the "grand sport" logo on the throttle body plate of the LT4 and flip out thinking it is something that it is not... in some cases... ignorance is bliss!!!

All of the Grand Sports had a VIN production number (last 6 digits) beginning with a 6. The numbers ran from 600001 to 601000.
lt4dogman- I assume you were talking aobut the original Grand Sports that Zora commisioned in 1963?? Up until a year or so ago GS #3 (chassis #2) was owned by Tom Armstrong in Issaquah WA. He regulary took GS #3 out for Historics races all over the country. If you have ever gone to a Historics race, you will see that most of the people running thes wonderful old race cars don't just do tour laps; they tend to run 9/10ths or even full tilt when the adrenilin gets pumping. A few years ago, Tom stuffed the #3 car into a wall at Portland (OR) In't Raceway. He said later that the car was designed to race and not gather dust in a museum. He repaired the car and was out on the track the following year. His wife campaigns a 63 Z06 roadster and she is just as competitive as he is!!
The last Historics I attended had about a dozen 427 Vettes entered. They were genuine late 60-early 70's race cars and the sound of all those motors at full-tilt going down a straight is something that you just cannot believe. You can't get that feeling when you look at a car sitting in somebody's museum display.
