I've never run mine all the way down to "no bars left" on the digi dash, and the most I've ever put in is 17.6 gallons. The capacity is 20, like mentioned, and I've heard of others coming close to that on a fill up, i.e. 19 and change. Yikes...no thanks.

The tank is rated at 20. I have managed to put in 19.75 while sputtering into a gas station when my sending unit died. Not good for the fuel pump so I wouldn't recommend trying this out for yourself

I read somewhere (maybe on ZR-1 only) that these tanks have a lining, not a rubber bladder. In hot temps the lining can pull loose from the tank walls and shrinks and stays in that position thus reducing capacity to something less than 20??? Bill
MORE: Another part of the problem when the plastic liner pulls away from the tank is that it might interfer with the working of the fuel guage causing false readings. I think there was a thread about gas guage problems on the Corvette Forum a few months ago discussing the guage problems and the whole lining issue. I can't find it now that I want to re-read it though. My mechanic said the only solution is a new tank when the lining problem is present.

Thanks for the replys I had half a tank and went to fill it up for Labor day weekend and the shutoff on the pump failed I stopped pumping when I heard that filled up gas rising sound but the pump failed and keep pumping needless to say it spewed out on the ground the pump said it pumped 14 gallons but after listening to the manager it sounds like the pump vapor recovery system failed and sucked gas from the pump back to the gas station recovery tank I told them it could not be a 28 gallon tank thanks now I get to go back and talk with the genral manager again by the way this was at a Military base gas station they said that the failure was caused by people repeatadly topping their tanks.
