How often does the "change oil" light come on
I think it must been 10k miles when mine came on, it's all black.
Does anyone know if its by how dirty the oil is or by milage when the light comes on?
thanks

According to the manual, it uses engine revolutions and oil temperature to decide when the oil is ending it's useful life.

I have always found it will come on at around 7500 miles after reset.

I think mine is around 7500 miles also, it's really annoying as sometimes I just change the oil and a few hundred miles later it comes on and for a second I think "Already!!"
Anyone wait for the light? I just change mine every 3k miles.

I change it when I feel like I don't like the color...
Sometimes it's 3K sometimes it's been 1500... depends on the motor... older motors tend to have more blowby and the carbons help to build up the acids in the oil.
I change oils more than most I guess... cheap insurance...
Oh... use an additive... I've used Prolong since the military allowed the maker to sell it to the public... the stuff is used for most turbine motors and it does give a better life for moving parts.

I figure if I never change the oil, the light will eventually burn out.

additives for dino oil only.synthetics dont need it and will probably not like it.
im sold on additives in dino oil tho.ive seen 1 427 hi-rise motor get a hole tore in the pan and drive 25 miles with no oil and no damage.it had slick 50 in it.amazed me and that was years ago.im sure the newer additives like prolong and duralube are even better.
alls i know about the light is if youve reset it and you see it come on it is definately time to change the oil.changed my oil last time at 3k and didnt reset (intentionaly) and havent seen the light come on yet, close to 5k miles since reset.
