Default Moving to So. Cal with a 85

I will be moving to Huntington Beach/Irvine area within the next few weeks and am bringing my 85.

It has 33K miles and has pased every emissions check in Ohio. Without sounding to ignorant I was wondering if there is anything I may have to do to get it to pass Ca. inspection?

Thanks

I dont know how your cat is holding up, but on my '85 the cat was completely shot, and I had to replace it this year. If your cat and air pump are in tact you should be fine. Make sure you have the proper gas cap too, they failed me, because mine didnt vent properly. Welcome to California :auto:

I''m in Anaheim. If you need to find a smog check station, let me know. I met one tech would was real cooperative. I won't elaborate ("Big Brother" could be watching). I'm sure he'll give you some good advice.

With that low of mileage, if everything is stock, you should be fine.

OH has a similar test to Ca, just with higher limits. If somebody on the forum from Ca with an 85 can tell you the limits their car had last time it was tested, you can compare the results of your last test and see if it will pass.

It will probably have slightly lower emissions here due to the gas. The gas is more emissions friendly. Run a full tank through before getting it tested. The flip side is that your gas mileage will drop significantly with this gas which offsets the lower emissions per gallon.

Come on out. I had no problems with my New York cars except for visual inspection. If your car is stock, there should not be a problem. If it is modified it could be trouble.

Right, bring money, but leave your boots, snow shovel and bug repellant in Ohio.

PS: Good area for Cost/Schedule geeks. ;)

From what I remember if you bring a non-CA car into the state you have to meet federal emissions rather than CA emissions levels... I remember this being the case when a lot of us Army guys who moved from GA (tech school) to CA (duty station) and bringing our cars in...

Newer cars aren't an issue but older cars were from what I saw...

That's incorrect.

Just show up at the inspection station, and open your wallet. They will do the rest. Plastic is good everywhere. :D
