Possibly the dumbest question.... ever!
Okay, at the expense of possibly becoming another "Willa," does anyone here actually drive their Vettes on gravel roads? My parents live on a dirt road (about 1 mile down) and I would love to take the Vette, but dont want stones to damage the underbody. Also, with all of the specialized components and materials under the car, will a little dirt and dust hurt it, or are these car tough enough for it?
Thank for the responses!

I guess I would err on the side of caution. I would be afraid that your rocker panels would become chipped from the gravel. You could drive really slow, but if your gravel roads are anything like the ones around here, some idiot going the other way at 50 MPH is going to throw stones as they pass you. You are better off walking the one mile or driving something else. Sorry.

Must go very slow and only when road is dry. Invariably someone in a 76 F-150 trying to go 50 mph will get on your bumper and honk the whole way.

I live on a gravel road and it's a PAIN IN THE REAR END!!!!
I have to drive approximately 1 mile which means I never take it out if the road is wet(Muddy) and I only drive 5 to 7 m.p.h. then I have to wash the car everytime I take it out to get the dust off. I am lucky that it is a dead end road with not much traffic and the neighors all know me and how I am about my vette and when they see me coming they will pull over and wait for me.
As far as it hurting the car this is my second vette and it does not hurt it, you just have to clean it a lot more. GRAVEL ROADS SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

the original owner of my car lived out in the country, where dirt roads are plentiful
believe me, you don't want to be driving on dirt roads with fiberglass floors

A neat shortcut from town is an unpaved road. I go the long way.
By the way, not a dumb question at all.

CentralCoaster's been out showing the ATV boys how to do a thing or two! :lolg: :lolg:
And personally, my Vette's seen a few dirt/gravel roads. I live in a freakin' desert; they're all over the place   I had to go down about a mile of horrible road to get these pics...
Just go really slow!! ...then wash and wash again :D

Dirt roads are fine... As others have said, just go slow. If somebody starts riding your behind, pull over and let 'em pass. It's your car - enjoy it! That means taking it to your parents' and letting them see you enjoying it, etc. You only get to live once! I'd take an Enzo down a dirt road, God willing! If I were fortunate enough to own one, you can bet your bottom dollar that s.o.b. would be out on the roads whenever possible!

Cool, slow it is. BTW, great pics! I love the scenery out there! Oh, and the Vette's pretty damn cool, too.

Used to take mine down a gravel road about a mile to the deer lease. That was in my '89. Used to hunt Prairie Dogs in West Texas in my '91. Have bird hunted in my '94. All required dirt roads. Last time I checked washing removed the dirt. <vbg> They're just cars fellas, and damned tough ones at that.
My current C4 (a '94) has 107K on the odo, but looks as if it should have 70K or less.... wash 'em, wax 'em, fix something when it goes wrong, and enjoy them.
